Mladějov, also known as Hradec or Hausberg, is an archaeological site of the early medieval castle and a extinct castle at the top of the Mladějov castle near Mladějova in Svitavy district. This monument is important as a place where, in the middle colonization of the landscape, the early castle was replaced by the highest medieval castle.

The site was probably used since the end of the 11th century. In the 12th century there was probably a fort, whose fortifications disappeared during the construction of the castle in the second half of the 13th century. The building itself was built in connection with the extensive colonization of the surrounding countryside.

The castle area has an oval plan of 63 × 38 metres. It is separated from the access neck by five meters deep and seventeen meters wide moat and wall. In the central part, this fence is expanding, which probably served to protect access to the bridge through the moat. The remaining three sides of the core are surrounded by a moat and a wall 8 to 11 metres wide. There are now no traces of masonry in the core itself; only on the front side there is a relic of fortifications in the form of a small wall. The pair of deeps in the field is probably the remnant of amateur excavations.

There were no written reports of the castle, but its fate is linked to the Mladějov family of Mladějova, who has been active in Marking Services since the middle of the 14th century. The castle was probably abandoned before 1365, from which the first written mention of Mladějov came. In the past there was a misalignment of the castle Václav from Mladějova, which was due to the confusion of the Moravian municipality Mladějov as the municipality Mladějov in the district of Jičín.

This archaeological object has been on the list of cultural monuments since 1964. The terrain remains represent a well-preserved structure of medieval fortification.

The site provides important information about the development of medieval settlements in the region. It is advisable to visit it for the study of the terrain tracks of early and high medieval architecture.

Welcome to Mount Mladějov Castle. Stop for a moment, take a breath and look around you. Maybe at first you can think of a question about where the monument is. You are standing in a place that today does not attract any erected towers, tombs or high walls that would interest you immediately. What you see before you is a silent testimony of centuries ago, written right in the grooves and vibrations of the landscape. Before you spread the archaeological site Mladějov, a place where the line of history of the early and high Middle Ages. Feel the atmosphere of this elevated space, where there was once discipline, defence and ambition of people who sought security and power.

Let us now return together in time so that this terrain begins to tell us its story. Imagine this peak almost a thousand years ago. Probably by the end of the 11th century, people started using this site. At that time it was not a castle in the true sense of the word, but an early fort. It was a period of uncertainty when the ability to control a strategic elevated point was the key to surviving and controlling the environment. During the twelfth century, the fort evolved here and served as an important supporting point in the landscape. People lived here, guarded the roads and built their community in accordance with the natural terrain of the hill.

Once we get to the second half of the 1930s, there is a fundamental change. The early fort that existed here was replaced by a new, more modern construction. This is when the castle itself was built. That was the moment when the simple fortification turned into a mansion that was supposed to emit status and stability. Notice now the area you're moving in. Even if you don't see any masonry today, see the shape of the terrain. The castle area had a very specific oval plan. If you imagine a line that surrounds the core of the castle, you'll see a space of 63 times 38 meters.

Now pay attention to the foothills of this space. Notice the deep trench and the waves that protected the castle. It is these terrain remains that are today the most significant traces we have left. Imagine how deep and steep this moat must have been at the time of its greatest glory. For anyone who would try to invade the castle, this groove in the country was an insurmountable obstacle. The valleys served as a basis for wood or stone digs, which closed the castle and made it a safe island above the surrounding countryside. It is fascinating that although time has erased walls and roofs, the very skeleton of the castle, its geometry in the landscape, still persists.

Who actually lived here? This place is closely linked to rod Mladějovských z Mladějova. Imagine them as noble families of the time that managed their manor and the castle was their home and administrative center. It was the people who put their energy into building this castle in the second half of the 1930s to consolidate their position in the region. Unfortunately, there were no detailed written reports about them and the castle itself that would tell us about their daily lives, their disputes or their joys. They remain mysterious figures for us, which we can only reconstruct through what they left behind in the country.

And this is where we come to one of the greatest mysteries of this place. The castle was probably abandoned a year ago, three hundred and sixty-five. Why did the Mladějov family decide to leave the place? Was it the result of some conflict, economic decline, or did it just seem practical to live in such a remote and difficult place? The answer remains hidden in the depths of the soil. It is paradoxical that the first written mention of Mladějov appears only in the year one thousand three hundred sixty-five, probably only when the castle was no longer inhabited. It's like history didn't start writing about this place until the place went quiet.

This site is known under several names, which in itself shows its significance and how different generations and cultures perceived it. You can hear her as a Hradec, which refers to her castle character, or under the German name Hausberg, which literally means home mountain. These names are like layers of paint on canvas that tell us that the site was important for different people at different times.

If you're standing in the middle of this compound today, feel the contrast. On the one hand there is the peace and quiet of nature, on the other hand an invisible trace of human effort, defense and power. In the year one thousand nine hundred sixty-four, Mladějov was listed on the list of cultural monuments, because even if there are no walls, this site is an invaluable source of information about how architecture and society developed in our landscapes from the end of the eleventh century to the late Middle Ages.

Now I invite you to take a slow walk around the perimeter of this oval compound. Try in mind to supplement the missing walls and gates. Watch where the terrain steeps and where the ditches are formed. Imagine that you were a guard who, in the twelfth century, walked around the ramparts of the castle, or a nobleman from the Mladějov family, who, from the top of his castle in the thirtieth century, observed the surrounding valley.

Let your imagination guide you and see how history hides under your feet, which, while silent, is still present. Explore every inch of this space, because it is in those stealth terrain inequalities that the truth lies about the people who once lived here.

Thank you for spending time with us on Mladějov Castle. We hope you felt connected to the ancient history of this place. We wish you a pleasant continuation in the discovery of the beauty and farewell.
