The Hutský Mill on Prague's Malá Strana near the Certovka River is a water mill with a rich history dating back to the 13th century. As a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, it attracts attention from its architecture and historical significance. The building in which grain was previously ground serves as a coffee shop, making it an attractive place for tourists and locals.

The origin of the building dates back to the 13th century, when it belonged to the monastery in Chotešov. In 1293 it was bought by the Vyšehrad Probošt Jan and transferred to the property of the small-scale Dominicans. The Hussite wars left a trail during which the mill was burned in 1420. Then he became property of the Old Town and later moved into the hands of the Malostranski village. Over the years, owners have often changed; at the beginning of the 16th century it was owned by Viktorín Kornel, an official of the Earth's records. After the battle on the White Mountain the mill crossed Pavel Michna from Vacín, who connected him to his neighbor's house.

Architecturally, it's a four-axis flat house on a square plan with a rolled-up roof. The windows and the entrance are decorated with simple champagne, which underlines the historical character of the building. In 1855 the mill had two grinding composition and one climb, while the water led to it with a drive through the sluice. At the beginning of the 19th century, the mill ended and the building was used for housing and storage. In 1786, a costly reconstruction took place in which internal dividing walls were built and the mill equipment was modified.

The mill experienced a number of dramatic events, including fires in 1905 and 1947. Subsequent repairs have ensured its preservation. The house was renovated in 1994 and a water bike was renovated a year later. Today, the mill is owned by VM, spol. s r.o., while the property under the building belongs to the City of Praha 1.

The current Hutsky Mill works as a Mill's Café, which increases its attractiveness to visitors. Historical and architectural values make it not only a cultural monument, but also a living part of contemporary urban life.

The Hutian Mill shows how historical objects can be preserved and adapted for new purposes. Thanks to its history and architecture, it is an interesting destination for anyone visiting Prague. A view of the connection between the past and the present makes this place a valuable destination for all visitors.

Welcome to the Lesser Side in Prague, where you are standing in front of one of the oldest and most interesting places in this historic part of the city - the Hutsky Mill. Note the elegant facade of this water mill, which boasts a rich history dating back to the 13th century. A building with a strenuous roof and a courtyard wing is not only an architectural pearl, but also a testament to the many transformations this complex has undergone over the centuries.

Let us immerse ourselves in the origin and historical context of the Hute Mill. In 1293 he began his long life by buying this place when he was transferred to the property of the monastery in Chotešov. This mill was not only an important part of the local industry, but also witnessed important historical events. In 1420 the Hussite mill was restored, which brought a new chapter in its existence. Later he became the property of the Old Town and finally the Malostranski village.

Look up at the four-axis storey house with its distinctive rolled-up roof. This detail is the result of many reconstructions that the mill has undergone, and each one has contributed to its present appearance. The inner space, although it now serves as a cafe, retains the impression of a past that is difficult to ignore.

Now pay attention to the key stories and personalities associated with the mill. Among them are names such as Viktorín Kornel and Pavel Michna z Vacínova, who have enriched the cultural landscape of Prague with their creation. Although their direct link to the mill is not historically documented, it is interesting to note that they lived at a time when this complex became a key part of local industry and culture.

The interesting thing about the Hutsky Mill is its ability to survive through clashes, wars and changes of ownership. This mill was not only a workplace for mills, but also a witness to the historical events that shaped today's Prague. It is fascinating to imagine how life and work took place under his roof in various epoch.

An invitation to further explore is the complex itself with its court wing. Although it is now accessible only from the outside, each part of it tells its own story. Whether you look at architectural details or notice the atmosphere this ancient mill breathes, every moment here is an understanding of the past.

Thank you for your visit to the Hute Mill. We hope that you have brought a memory of this unique place and that you will return again to expect another journey into the past. When we meet again, be with God and remember to welcome the history of every stone on the Little Party.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the Hutsky Mill is in the spring or autumn season when vegetation on the surrounding sides is golden yellow to red. This time of year also offers mild weather compared to sunny summer months, which is ideal for a long walk around Certovka.

Transportation to Hutsky Mill is comfortable both by car and public transport. The location is located in the centre of Prague and is well accessible from various parts of the city.

When visiting, remember suitable shoes and clothes, especially if you plan to walk on steep stairs or trips around Certovka. It may also be useful to have a umbrella, a wand and drinking water, especially if you plan to spend more time in the countryside.

Photography of the Hutsky Mill offers several beautiful perspectives. The best light is usually in the early morning or late afternoon when the sun is not directly above the head and the shadow effects are less conspicuous. The views from the surrounding pavements and stairways leading to the mill offer a view of the building within the historical architecture of Mala Strana.

In the vicinity of the Hutsky Mill you can visit other interesting places such as the Black Bridge and the Church of Saint Anne. These sites are ideal for short walks or relaxation in a pleasant outdoor environment. It is advisable for families with children to visit some of the small parks and playgrounds on the Mala Strana, where children can play in the natural environment.
