Ostrava-Svinov is a railway station located in Svinov, one of Ostrava's urban areas. This monument stands out not only for historical value, but also for architectural design and cultural significance. The station was built as part of the North railway of Emperor Ferdinand and today serves as a key link on the line Přerov- Bohumín, with turns to Opava and Český Těšín. The Neobarical cruise building from 1845 is a cultural monument and represents an architectural complex extended in the 1970s and 1895.

The origin of Ostrava-Svinov can be dated to the period when Emperor Ferdinand's North Railroad was built between Lipnik nad Beč and Bohumín. The completion of this section in 1847 was primarily of economic importance due to the mines in Ostrava. After the completion of the Opava connection in 1855 the railway station began to become of importance and after the operation of the Vítkovická race track in 1888 it became an important freight station. This development was supported by coal mining and industrial growth in the region.

Architecturally, the station is characterized by a non-Baroque style, which is reflected in the original building from 1845. In the 1970s and then in 1895, the station was expanded into an architectural complex. In 2006, a glass extension of the check-in hall was built according to the design of architect Václav Filandro, which preserved the historical part and supplemented it with a modern element. This reconstruction was awarded by several architectural awards.

The station has undergone various stages of ownership and administration, with its fates closely linked to the industrial development of the region. In the 1920s, bridges were built here for safe movement between the CSD and VZD platforms, but they were later brought down because of a bad technical condition. After 1991 the railway to Vítkovice was destroyed and the station space was reconstructed between 2001 and 2006.

Key events include the operation of the Polanecka connection in 1964, which enabled a new route between Kunčice, Vitkovice, Svinov and Český Těšín. The station was also hit by floods in 1997, which led to some modifications. The transfer of the information system to the new INISS system and the opening of the reconstructed station in 2006 was also an important change.

Today Ostrava-Svinov is not only an important transport hub, but also a cultural monument with a rich history. The station is used for trains of all categories and is controlled by the Central Dispatcher's Office Přerov. The metal statue Levitation by David Moješčík located outside the station is also interesting for visitors.

Ostrava-Svinov is therefore worth visiting not only for its transport importance but also as a witness to the region's industrial and cultural heritage. Its reconstruction and modernization indicate an attempt to preserve historical elements while ensuring current functionality.

Welcome to Ostrava, specifically the city of Svinov. Right now, you're standing in front of a place that is far more than just an ordinary stop point for passengers. In front of you is the building of railway station Ostrava-Svinov, which combines several different stages, styles and stories. If you look at it, you might perceive the strange contrast between the older parts of the building and the modern elements that were inserted into it much later. It is a place of constant movement where thousands of people cross paths, yet it carries the peace and dignity of a historical monument. Stop for a moment, take a breath, and let me take you through the history of this fascinating transport hub.

To understand why this station is so important, we have to go back deep into the nineteenth century. Imagine the time when the world started accelerating with the first railroad. It was in the construction of Emperor Ferdinand's northern runway that this station was created. It was an ambitious project to connect remote parts of the empire and promote trade and travel. The original shipping building was built in 1845. It was a revolution at the time. The railway brought new energy to the region, new possibilities and changed the way people perceived distances. Svinov has thus become a key point on the map through which raw materials, goods and people flow. This station was not only a practical building, but a symbol of the progress and power of the period.

Now please focus on the architecture of the building in front of you. Note her style, which experts call unarable. It's a style that draws on the richness and decoration of the Baroque, but brings them to a more modern age. This 1845 expedition building wasn't as big from the start as you see today. With increasing importance for Ostrava and its surroundings, it was necessary to expand the space. The first significant expansion took place in the 1970s and then again in 1895. If you look at the facade, you can see how the building gradually evolved and adapted to the needs of thousands of passengers. It is a real cultural monument that maintains the aesthetics of the last century and reminds us of the importance that has been placed on the appearance of public buildings, even though they have served as pragmatic a purpose as transport.

Now let's move on to something completely different. Look at the glazed part that complements the historical space. This is a check-in hall which was built much later, namely in 2006. This bold move was the project of architect Václav Filandro. Notice how glass surfaces contradict the mass of the old neobarical building. This extension is not only a practical extension for passengers, but a dialogue between the past and the present. Filandro's design brought light, airiness and modern feeling to the station without completely suppressing the historical value of the original building. It's a fascinating connection where old stones and modern glass meet at one point.

Although we will not find in the archives the names of specific personalities associated with this station as its creators or residents, the real heroes of this place are the people who went through it. Imagine the thousands of unknown passengers who, over the course of more than a hundred and seventy years, parted with their loved ones, received guests or left for a fresh start. Svinov was and is a strategic heart. This is where important turns lead to Opava and Český Těšín, and the station serves as a key link on the line from Přerov to Bohumín. Each metre of these perons and every brick of the building sucked into the atmosphere of anticipation, haste and joy of returning.

You might find one interesting thing that makes this station a special place. Ostrava-Svinov is not only a transport hub but is perceived as a whole with high cultural significance. It is rare to see the neobarical elegance of the mid-nineteenth century in a building with the transparency of modern architecture from the beginning of the millennium. This station is basically an open book of the history of architecture and transport in our region. While the old part of the building talks about the imperial era and the expansion of industry, the glass hall talks about the openness and dynamics of today's times.

Now that you know the story of this place, I suggest you go through the premises of the check-in hall and see how light is changing through glass walls. Look again at the details of the original building and try to imagine what the first steam locomotives that stopped here in 1845 looked like. Svinov is a place where time has stopped while constantly running forward.

Thank you for coming through the short history of railway station Ostrava-Svinov. I hope that this view of the memory has enriched you and that you will perceive its beauty on every other journey you take here. Now I invite you to explore the area or continue your journey. Have a safe trip and goodbye.
