Panská fořtovna is a protected house from the end of the 18th century. It is located in the village of Lázně Libverda in Frýdlantý near Liberec Region. The construction was originally built for a master forger, a forester in the estate of the Clam- Gallas.

The building was created during the period of transition from Baroque to Classicism. At that time he developed administrative and economic buildings on aristocratic lands. The architect was probably Johann Josef Kunze from Liberec, who also designed a local castle for Clam- Gallas.

It is a storey brick building with a ground plan in the shape of the letter L. The building ends with a mansard roof with a skylight covered with eternity. Due to hilly terrain, the basement areas on the south side are on the ground floor level of the north side. Smooth-lined side walls break down lighter lizene frames and windows complement the champagne. The entrance from the north side, leading from communication, is lined by a portal from roughly carved granite. The access to it is provided by a covered staircase. The south and east sides of the house support the wall of granite blocks. It creates a ground floor terrace, which is bounded by profiled pillars and walls.

People's reputation binds to the house, which also makes the object called the Magic Mortar. According to her, a mysterious alchemist lived here at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. He prepared potions in the golden mortar, and during the storms he went out on a black horse. Local people attributed him a connection to the devil. Legends mention the event of July 31, 1802, when Count Kristián Kryštof Clam-Gallas held a celebration to discover the memorial of Archduke Karl in the park. The alchemist who was not invited to the celebration was to take revenge on the nobles that caused the storm. According to the submissions, he was carried to hell by the devil at one of the Easter Saturdays.

Panská fořtovna is an important element of the historical urbanization of the Libverda Spa and an example of classical architecture designed for the management of the estate. Her visit offers insight into the history of Lánek and links with the local folklore.

Welcome to the Libverda Spa. Right now, you're standing in front of a building that carries history for centuries telling a story about people who cared about the wealth of nature. The Panská fořtovna stands before you, a monument-protected house that fits with its appearance stability and calm into the surrounding hilly terrain. If you look at it, you'll see a storey brick object, which, both in size and size, stands out from the normal building. It is a place where the administration of noble property meets the beauty of the northern border regions of the Czech Republic.

Let us now stop at how this building was created and why it is standing here at all. Let us move back in time to the end of the eighteenth century, namely the year of the thousand seven hundred and eighty. At that time, a style called Classicism was promoted in architecture, which emphasized purity and balance. It was during this period that the forklift was built for the master forklift. Maybe you're wondering who this guy was. The Fork was basically the main forester who had under him the management of forests in the manor of the mighty Clam- Gallas. So imagine that this house was not just an ordinary residence, but the seat of a dignified official who was responsible for thousands of hectares of cattle and game on behalf of the nobleman Kristian Christopher Clam-Gallas.

Now pay attention to the architecture of the house itself. If you look at the overall composition, notice that the building does not have a simple rectangular shape, but its ground plan resembles the letter L. This shape was not random, but was intended to serve the practical distribution of space. Look up above, to finish the construction. Here you will see the so-called Mansard roof, which is typical of its specific breakage of the surface and gives the house some nobility. While it is true that during the twentieth century, the roof was covered with eternity, which changed its original appearance, the baselines were preserved.

Who designed this house? Historical records point us to a person named Johann Josef Kunze from Liberec. He was a respected builder of his time, and it was his hand that probably created this harmonious object. Also note how the house is set in the landscape. Since you're in hilly terrain, the building must fight the foundation. If you look at the bottom of the house, you'll find a fascinating detail. The basement spaces are solved by the ground inclination so that on one side they are hidden in the ground while on the other side they are on the ground floor level. It is a clever architectural solution that has made it possible to use the space most efficiently, regardless of the terrain inequality.

When you stand in front of a building like this, try to imagine life in the nineteenth century. The Forkhouse was not only a home, but a centre of the administration of the nobility. This is where records were kept of the shavers, where hunting was planned and where the fate of the surrounding forests was decided. There are also interesting personalities and events associated with the house. One of the most significant traces of time is the year of a thousand eight hundred and two. At that time, there was a celebration of the discovery of the Archduke Karl's memorial. It was days of heartache, guests and social life that, for a while, turned this administration house into the center of social activity.

But every old place has its secrets. The local folk's report on the Panská fořtě is silent and at the same time speaking. In addition to official forest records, legends have been preserved in the corners of memory, which mention the character of the alchemist. Imagine those quiet nights in the northern hills where one of the rooms might have tried mysterious recipes or looked for ways to turn ordinary metals into expensive ones. Although these are just stories, they give the house some depth and mystery that you feel today when you perceive the atmosphere of this place.

It's fascinating to realize how the building's functions changed. From the mansion of the master forester to the center of the estate administration to today's status as a protected building. Forrtina survived changes in regimes, wars, and changes in materials, such as the above-mentioned eternity on the roof, and yet retained her dignity. He is a silent witness to the history of the Clam- Gallas family and proof of the important role that nature administration has played in the past centuries.

Now that you know the story of this house, I suggest you observe it quietly for a while. Feel the contrast between the strength of the walls and the fineness of the surrounding nature surrounding this house. Try to imagine what sounds were made here two hundred days ago, what cars came here, and what orders the master board gave to its subordinates.

Panská fořtovna is just one of many pieces of history that you will find in the Libverda Spa. It is a place where the practical function is combined with the aesthetic intention of architect Kunz. I hope you were interested in this short trip to the past and that you could imagine living in this unique L-shaped house.

Now you can calmly continue your journey and explore the further beauty of this region. Let yourself be guided by the sounds of the forest and the view of the hills once managed by the people of this house. Thank you for spending some time with us at the Pan Fortress. We wish you a pleasant rest of the day and many other discoveries during your journey. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit is late spring or autumn, when the colors of the surrounding nature complement the appearance of this historic house from the late eighteenth century. The building served as the seat of the master forester, which gives it a specific atmosphere.

You can reach Libverda Spa by car or public transport; Check the specific connection and stop options in the current search engines. We recommend shoes suitable for nature walks.

Photography is the most prominent in the morning or late afternoon light, which highlights the details of the facade. The best angles for the images are from the surrounding roads, from where the home of the line is seen in the entire context of the landscape.

Don't forget to head to the nearby area during the visit. As part of a short walk visit the spa forest park with the memorial of Archduke Charles or walk to the local castle.

For families with children, it is ideal to combine an outdoor tour of the house with a walk in the forest park where children can explore nature and history in a quiet environment.

Seasonal recommendations

In the spring, the surroundings wake to life and the young greenery gently wrap the masonry. Light is soft in this period, which helps to observe the facade details from the outside. We recommend shoes suitable for wet terrain and visit in the morning when the air is the cleanest.

In the summer months they dominate the rich colors and bright sun, which sharply depicts the shapes of the building. The atmosphere is warm and the singing of birds in the surrounding trees is accompanied for years. It is advisable to choose a light garment and cap, the best is to come early in the morning or evening to avoid the greatest heat.

Autumn brings golden and red shades to the landscape that create a melancholy whole with historical architecture. The low sun hits the wall at a sharp angle and creates deep shadows. It is practical to take a waterproof jacket with you and plan the journey to the afternoon hours when autumn light is most moody.

Zimą makes the monument strict and bold, especially if the masonry covers a layer of snow. Quiet and cold air give the place a solitary character. Hot shoes with anti-slip soles and laminated clothing are essential for comfortable movement, and a visit on clear winter days is ideal.
