Podhajský mlýn (Pod Kozimelka) in Suchov in Hodonin district stands on the River Veličku and is protected as a real-estate cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This historical object excels with preserved building elements and historical details.

His oldest history has been preserved little, yet the mill is shown on the map of the Imperial Mandatory Prints from 1827. The building was rebuilt in 1878. The mill was open until 1930 when it was no longer used for milling.

The area consists of a residential house and a mill with a waltz; free-built land divides state roads. The main building is oriented by a shield to the road and its first floor has chambers. On the slope lies the mill with remnants of the supporting stone masonry and roof extending the residential part. The interior is characterized by beam ceilings. In the first part of the dwelling covers the original clay floor linoleum. The second part of the accommodation has a similar plan, but it also contains a black kitchen and a scar with an oven with tiled stove.

Only mill stones were preserved in good condition from technical equipment. Water for the water wheel was originally driven by a drive, but the mill technology itself did not survive. In the black kitchen in the first part of the residence was preserved a mandrake (vault with wooden translation) while the oven is already broken down. In the grid of the skylight are preserved the years 1893 and 1878.

Podhajský mlýn offers an authentic view of historical architecture and lifestyle in this area. It's a valuable object for anyone interested in preserving technical and residential traditions.

Welcome to the Podhaya Mill. You're standing in a place where history meets the constant movement of water and where time seems to be a little slower than in the surrounding communities. Before your eyes is a building that is not just an ordinary house, but a living witness to the past that has been here in Suchov near Hodonín for centuries. Feel this atmosphere, feel the calm that brings the proximity of the Grand River. For decades, this river has been the main engine of this place, the source of power and the relentless rhythm that determined the everyday life of the people who worked and lived here.

Now let's look deeper into the past together to understand why this place is so special. This building is not just a random cluster of walls, but an object with very deep roots. If we want to find the first clear evidence of its significance, we must return to 1827. It was at that time that the mill was written on maps of Emperor's mandatory prints. These maps are not just ordinary drawings, they are valuable historical documents that allow us to see the world the way it looked two centuries ago. The registration of the mill in these official records confirms that already at that time Podhajský mlýn was an important point in local infrastructure and economy.

However, the history of this place was not static, it constantly evolved and adapted to the needs of the time. A major reconstruction took place in 1878. Imagine the period back then, the flowering time and the modernisation effort, when the old structures were changing to serve people and technology better. This reconstruction probably gave the mill the form the world knew in its best years. But even the strongest traditions must ever give way to a new order. In 1930 the sound of the grain that was so typical of this place finally stopped. The mill was no longer in operation and its role changed from a job to a silent monument to the past.

Now pay attention to what you see right in front of you. The architecture of this place is fascinating by its distribution. Notice how the whole area is divided into two main parts, separated by the state road. On one side you have a residential house and on the other you have a mill with a waltz. This contrast between the road that cars drive through today and the historical core of the mill is very strong. It's like two worlds, the old one and the modern one, touching at one point. Although the road physically separates these parts, their historical unity remains intact.

When you look at the structure of the buildings itself, try to imagine in your mind how the original operation worked. Even though water does not have to spin around anymore, the architecture still shows the principle on which this whole was built. The key was the drive that led the water directly to the water wheel. It was a technical monument in itself, a journey that water traveled to do its job. Even though you may not see the movement of water at full power now, you may perceive the geometry of space that was designed to use the power of nature.

Although we will not find in our historical records the names of the particular architects who would design this building, nor the names of the famous figures who would move here, their presence is felt in every detail. The work of unknown masters here is visible in the quality of the very existence of this place. And it is in these details that the greatest mystery and interest I can offer you.

If you have the opportunity to enter the interior, look carefully. There are traces on the wall of the saint that are not just ordinary numbers, but time prints. There are inscribed years 1893 and 1878. These two years are like silent testimony that the people who lived here have taken care of their existence and their work. It was years that had some significance, maybe a repair, maybe a celebration, or just the need to write down your presence for future generations. These years are like whispers from the past that tell us that even though people are long gone, their work and their time remain written in wood and stone.

It's important to realize that you're not just standing in front of an old building. You are facing a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This protection is not just a formal matter, it is recognition that Podhajský mlýn is part of our common heritage. It is proof that this place has value that we must protect so that even people over the next hundred years can stand here and feel the same amazement of history that we now feel.

Now I want to invite you to continue your walk and see the surrounding landscape surrounding this mill. Get carried away by the atmosphere of Suchov and see how history intertwines with the present in every step you take. Thank you for stopping by and paying attention to this place. We wish you a wonderful further journey along our historic trail.

Seasonal recommendations

In the spring the mill surrounds the awakening greenery and the increased flow of water in the stream creates a dynamic atmosphere. The light is fine and suitable for capturing the details of the construction. We recommend moisture-resistant shoes for wet journeys and a light jacket for variable weather. It's best to visit the place in the morning.

The summer season brings rich color foliage and bright sun, which highlights the texture of old walls. There is a playful noise of insects and a sense of summer peace around the water. Due to the largest number of visitors and heat, come first thing in the morning. Dress light, breathable materials and remember to protect against the sun.

The surroundings of the mill will be coloured in golden tones and the morning mist above the water will give the memory a mysterious touch. The atmosphere is calmer and more melancholy. Layer clothing and solid leaf footwear are suitable. The ideal time to visit is the late afternoon when the sun casts long shadows.

In winter, the mill is still and still, especially if snow covers the landscape. The contrast of white and dark building material creates a unique visual impression. It is necessary to wear very warm and waterproof clothes. Due to the shorter day and limited traffic, we recommend planning the way forward.
