Restaurace U jezírka Summer palace

The former restaurant U jezírka, which was also called Na Jezírkách, is located in the upper part of Kinský zahrady in Prague's Smíchov district. Today, only a shell of it remains. Together with the summer house, it is protected as a cultural monument.

The building was constructed around 1830 as a garden pavilion, a so-called sala terrena. It was part of the classical composition of the entire complex. Originally it was an extensive building with an arcaded portico facing the garden, with an entrance arcade, side spaces and extensions.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, the pavilion was converted into a garden restaurant. In May 1902, it was opened by Josef Černohorský, who had previously worked as a waiter at Žofín. The establishment was very popular. It attracted visitors mainly because of its location in the middle of the greenery and the view over Prague.

Later the pavilion became the property of the restaurant company Restaurace a jídelny. After 1990, musician Karel Svoboda bought it from them, wanting to operate Radio Vox there. However, the reconstruction never took place and the building fell into disrepair. The lack of access road was also a problem. In 2001, Svoboda offered to sell the pavilion to Prague 5 municipal office. They declined the offer because they did not own the surrounding land. Its owner was the Prague city administration. A year later, in 2002, the building caught fire.

The pavilion's perimeter walls have been preserved, in places even with cornices. Above the central space, only remains of the roof structure remain. On the facade, the original inscription Restaurace kavárna is still legible today. The original layout of the summer terrace is also clearly visible.
