Skleněný palác Palace

Skleněný palác is located in Bubenč on Svoboda Square No. 728 / 1, where it forms the dominant triangle square, formerly called Dürichovo. As a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, it is protected and is an architecturally important expression of the functional modern of its времени.

The construction was built in 1936- 1937 according to the design of architect Richard Groundený. It was built as a rental house for the Landesbank based on an architectural competition, which shows the ambition and quality of the project from the very beginning. The house is thus a testament to economic possibilities and modern thinking in recent years before World War II.

The monumental building has a trapezoidal floor plan with a middle seven-storey part facing the Square of Liberty. It is followed by two shorter six-storey side wings, from which the left is headed to the street of the Czechoslovak army and the right to Terronská. The yard is modified as a garden where they used to find a tennis court and a playground. Underneath the house is spread richly equipped underground with cellars, laundry, drying rooms and almonds, which was exceptional for its period.

The apartments have different sizes ranging from the studio apartment to the four-room apartment, there are usually two-bedroom apartments - there are twenty of them in the building. All are equipped with built-in cabinet walls and floor heating. The general majority of the apartments are equipped with logbooks or a winter garden. The roof area served as a recreational terrace with a garden. Also surprisingly, there is a garage, which was unusual for an apartment building at the time.

Architecturally, the house speaks of a clear composition - strictly symmetrical and geometric facade. The ground floor is fully glazed and is intended for trade; a large entrance hall is situated in its central part. The central part of the building is surrounded by columns of logbooks, winter gardens and window belts. The facade is largely glazed, the rest covered with white ceramic tiles. The concrete construction is not visible on the facade.

It was this imaginative architecture and luxury equipment that earned the nicknames that he endured - "Glass House," "Skleněný palác" or "Basement." Commercial premises, wedding hall and information office of Prague 6 are currently represented on the ground floor.
