Socha Panny Marie (Seletice) Statue

The statue of Our Lady in Seletice is the work of an unknown author from 1832, which represents an important example of the folk-processed sculpture art of Eastern Bohemia. This monument is located in the northwest part of the village in the district of Nymburk in front of the house No. 19 and since 10 February 1987 it is registered as a cultural monument.

The sculpture was created in the first half of the 19th century when the national consciousness was revived in Bohemia. This historical context shows interest in folk tradition and culture, which is also evident in sculpture and art of the time.

The statue is oriented northwest and stands on an unusual octave plinth, which is connected with a four-sided base of iron Scots. On the northwest side of the pedestal are given dates 1832 and 1893 when the memorial was restored. The middle column has a circular cross section, a profiled foot and is decorated with festons. On it is a round head with a bronze inscription "Pray the Mother of God for us." The head supports a vase with deepened leg and cylindrical walls, the lamp hanger is inserted into the top. The weight is covered with clouds with angels' heads and there is a Marian monogram in the rays on the front. Immaculata is displayed in sublife size, carrying the cloak held with the left hand in front of the chest, while the right hand is slightly triggered and curved with the index finger stretched out. The hair is tied in a knot and around the head is an iron circle with 11 six-pointed stars.

In 1893 the monument was restored, while in 2012 the statue under the leadership of Ota Pospíchal was the subject of restoration intervention.

Today this object is protected as a cultural monument and represents an important example of folk art. The statue is worth visiting anyone who is interested in historical details and artistic manifestations of Eastern Bohemia.
