The statue of St. John Nepomucký in Křinec is a sandstone Baroque monument from 1728-1729, which stands on the square of the village Křinec in the district of Nymburk. This monument is manifested by a high-quality sculpture with East Bohemia provenance and an unusual five-sided plinth.

It arose at a time when Baroque art and architecture strongly influenced Europe and Bohemia. The author of the statue remains unknown.

The sculpture of the saint is approximately 180 cm tall and is performed in Baroque style. The figure stands in contrast with the left bent leg, its body axis turns helically. The saint is dressed in cleric, rochet, short, smooth-shaded fur coat and biret. The left hand holds a massive crucifix, and the right holds a palm branch leaning against the shoulder. The head is slightly tilted to the left shoulder. The face has noble features, supplemented with curly hair and beard.

The statue stands on an atypical plinth with a five-sided base and a base of circular plan. Sokl is divided by the arches, at the top then narrowed by the fabion with five risalities. The middle part of the column has grooves and whistles, the head is calcareous with five plastic arches. There is a chronogram on the front: S. IOANNES / NEPOMVCENVS / VITAE ET HONORIS / CONSERVANDI /.. RO.VS, while the rear side carries the year 1729.

Since 31 December 1965 the statue has been registered as a cultural monument. In 1986, her condition was classified as accidental due to damage to the lower grade and the falling pairing. The reconstruction took place in 2011 under the leadership of Josef Faltus.

The monument stands in front of the house No. 11, near the church of St. Gilje and the monument-protected bridge with allegory sculptures. The statue is an important example of baroque sculpture and is worth visiting anyone interested in historical art.

Welcome to Křinec. You've just stopped at a place that carries deep peace and a trace of ancient times. You're standing right in the square, in his heart, just outside house 11. This statue, this sandstone monument that stands here and stands with you, will now take your eyes on it. It's a statue of St. John Nepomuk. Feel the weight of history that radiates from this stone. Look at him, his quiet presence in this space, where the everyday life of the people is linked to the legacy of the ancestors.

Let's go back together to the time this episode was created. Imagine the world over 300 years ago. The statue was created in the years of a thousand seven hundred twenty-eight to a thousand seven hundred twenty-nine. That was the era when art was full of movement, emotion and religious excitement. This style, which we call baroque, has tried to impress a man and give him a thrill. Even though we no longer know exactly who was holding the chisel and working on this sandstone, its quality tells us a lot about its creator. The author remains hidden in history, which carries a certain mystery. Nevertheless, the work emits a high level of craft and a clear origin from eastern Bohemia. It's fascinating how the work can be so powerful and expressive, even though his name has been forgotten over time.

Now pay attention to the work itself and to what you see right in front of you. Notice the material from which the statue is carved. It's sandstone. This stone has its own soul, its own texture and the way it ages. Feel how the surface of the stone reacts with light and how time has given it its patina. Now look at what the statue stands for. It's something that can really surprise you. Most similar monuments from this time have a base of a different shape, often four-sided or round. But this statue is extraordinary. He's got five hips. This five-sided base is unusual, atypical and gives the whole piece an unexpected geometrical feel. It's a detail that required great skill and courage from the sculptor to go a different way than the most common.

If you look even more closely at the inscriptions on the statue, you may encounter another fascinating detail. There's a chronogram hidden here. For some, it may seem like ordinary writing, but for connoisseurs, it's a hidden code. It's the way artists put the date right in the letters at the time. This sign tells us that the year of production was a thousand seven hundred twenty-nine. This inscription confirms the entire history of this place and specifies exactly when this sandstone piece of art was completed. It's like a time signature that's been carved into stone for all of us.

We are talking about the figure of St. John Nepomuk, who is very important in our countries. Although we know nothing about the sculptor himself, the figure the statue represents is a fixed point in the history and faith of this region. This statue is not just an ornament to the square, it's a memory of space.

You may be interested in how much this monument is protected today. It's proof that her value was recognized a long time ago. Since the end of the year a thousand nine hundred and sixty-five, this statue has been written as a cultural monument. This means that the state and the community make sure that this sandstone gem is preserved. In a thousand and nine hundred and eighty-six, an important classification of her condition took place to ensure that this monument continues to be preserved for future generations. It's proof that even though the statue is hundreds of years old, it's still important and valuable to us.

This sculpture is therefore a combination of unknown art, unusual geometry and deep history that takes place right before your eyes. He is a silent witness to the changes that Křinec has experienced.

I hope this short journey in time has brought you some peace and new prospects. Please continue to explore this beautiful place and enjoy the atmosphere it offers. Goodbye.

We recommend wearing more layers of clothing because the weather is variable. The best place to visit is in the morning when the air is the cleanest.

In the summer months it dominates rich green and sharp sun, which creates deep shadows in the details of the statue. The atmosphere is hot and full of life. Due to summer temperatures and more visitors, come as early as possible in the morning. Don't forget light clothes and plenty of fluids for the trip.

Autumn brings golden colours of leaves and frequent morning fog, which give the monument a mysterious and melancholy touch. The light is golden in this period and very pleasant for photography. It is practical to wear moisture resistant shoes and visit in the afternoon when the sun warms the surroundings slightly.

In winter, the statue is often covered with white snow, which creates a strong contrast with a dark stone and acts very calmly. There is silence and freezing purity. It is necessary to wear warm winter clothes and plan the journey in the morning as the days are short and darkness comes soon.
