Socha svatého Vavřince (Heřmanův Městec) Statue

Baroque sandstone statue of St. Vavrnice, located on the green island in the middle of the communication in Høman's Town, is a unique cultural heritage of the Czech Republic. Since 1729 it has been located in this place and since 1964 it has been protected as a real-estate cultural monument. This statue, created by an unknown author from the Braun circuit, represents an important part of local history and artistic tradition.

The statue of St. Lawrence was built in 1729. This period is characterized by the development of baroque art, which in Central Europe, including Bohemia, has manifested itself with a rich culture and architecture of both religious and secular buildings. The Baroque style is known for its drama and detail, which is also reflected in this work.

The architectural statue stands on a profiled pedestal with carved inscriptions and decoration. The base is low, prismatic and topped, which adds an impression of elegance. Narrower pillar with sides decorated with volutes and profiled ledge decorated the front side of the pedestal. On this pillar is carved chronogram with Latin inscription: "DIVVs LaVrenziv PatronVs Noster ab Igne teMporali et aeterno nos Conservet," meaning that Saint Vavřinec is to protect from fire both temporary and eternal. On the back of the pillar is another dedicated Latin inscription: "ISTA STATVA EXPENSIS IOANNIS IOSEPH COMITING DESPORK ERECTA EVIT. 1729 - 1832," suggesting that the statue was built on the expense of Jan Josef Desport.

The statue of St. Vavrnice stands on a low-profile pedestal and represents a saint in a slightly larger size. Saint Vavřinec, leaning against the grate, stands in a bow on a cloud dressed in mascara with a gilded palm branch in his left hand. The little angel's head is carved at the feet. This detailed representation of the saint underlines his protective task and symbolic importance.

In 2016, the statue was completely renovated, which ensured its preservation for future generations. This renovation was important for maintaining the aesthetic and historical importance of the monument.
