Starý zámek Hillfort

Starý zámek at Luleče is one of the largest prehistoric castles in Moravia. Located in the village Luleč in the district of Vyškov in the South Moravian Region. The locality was inhabited from neolithic to medieval and protected as a cultural monument.

The use of the castle space began in neolithic. There lived a culture with pocketbook cups, baden and stage culture. During the Bronze period, the settlement continued during the Silesian phase of the Lužice culture. Then people lived here in the Latin era.

The fort is situated at an altitude of between 360 and 390 metres on a flat, slightly inclined plain. It is part of the ridge with the peak above the Rock. The steep slopes fall to the Rakovka Valley by 80 meters. The fortification, the date of which is not known, consists of a double wall and moat in several sections. The height of the preserved bays ranges from one to 3.5 metres. On the south side, the fortification line is three times and 25 meters wide. The gate was located 280 metres from the west corner.

In the High Middle Ages, namely the late 13th century, the castle Luleč was founded in the neighbourhood of St. Martin's Church. He served as a superintendent until the second half of the 15th century when he was abandoned. At the beginning of the 20th century the remnant of this castle was named on the Old Castle.

The first archaeological findings from the castle since 1877 were obtained by V. Travenec. He published his results in 1904 and prepared two plans for the site. The site was published by Jan Knies and Inocenc Ladislav Červinka in 1894 and 1896. Significant findings include 22 bronze needles stored in the Svobov Museum and the Moravian Museum. In 2016, thanks to the cooperation with amateur archaeologists, the deposit of bronze objects Luleč 3 was obtained. He brought new knowledge of the Bronze Age activities.

The current state of the castle is significantly damaged by an unorganized waste landfill and growing vegetation. These factors complicate archaeological research and the possibilities of tourist use of the object.
