Štechova vila, a Neo-Renaissance architectural work on the Klatovy class in Pilsen, is a unique monument that attracts attention from its origin and history. This building built between 1904 and 1905 by architect Rudolf Štech for itself can be seen as a testament to the rich cultural and artistic tradition of the time. Since 1995, this building has been protected as a historical and aesthetic object.

The emergence of the Štech Villa was linked to the intensive urban development in Europe in the early 20th century, when new architectural styles, such as modernism and historism, appeared. In the Czech Republic, this trend was particularly apparent, which reflects the villa itself with its neo-Renaissance character. Architect Rudolf Štech decided to build a building on Klatov class and took advantage of the opportunity to realize his creative ideas.

Architecturally, Štechova vila is characterized by a structure with two perpendicular wings, which are shifted together. The wind between them contains a staircase leading to the main entrance to the house. The facade is decorated with wooden lodgings on the second floor and stucco cartouche above the central column of arcades leading to Klatov Street. While the northwest facade is axially symmetrical, the southwest facade remains asymmetrical and a triangular risalite appears in the left side. Sgraffite on the facade, designed by Mikolašemš Alš on the basis of Rudolf Štech's assignment, gave the building colorful elements and artistic character.

Rudolf Štech was not only the creator of the house, but also its first owner. After completion of the construction in May 1905 he received a permit to use on 23 June of the same year. The Sgraffite decoration took place during its raid on the city in 1944, but in 1995 it was renovated at the same time as the declaration of the villa as a monument. These events highlight not only the historical importance of the object, but also its resilience and lasting value.

The key moments include the completion of the construction in 1905, the destruction of the sgraffiti decoration during the raid in 1944 and its restoration together with the declaration of the villa for the commemoration of 1995. These milestones reflect the architectural and historical trajectory of the object.

Today Štechova vila is open to the public and represents an important cultural and historical point in Pilsen. Neo-Renaissance architecture, rich art decoration and moving history make this building an interesting destination for people interested in history and art. Visiting the sights offers an opportunity to appreciate the architectural skills of Rudolf Štech and Mikoláš Alš while understanding the cultural context of their times. Careful protection and conservation ensure that future generations can admire this memory as much as we do today.

Welcome to the Southern Suburb of Pilsen. You are standing in front of a remarkable historical building, which is the famous Štechova vila. You can see it in front of you at the moment. Feel the atmosphere of this place, where the history of our city combines with the artistic genius of past years. Take a look at this work, which has been closing the face of our broad city class for over a hundred years.

Let us now return in time to the period of birth of this building. The foundation of the villa is connected with the name of a distinguished man who was architect and builder of Rudolf Štech. He's the one who designed this house and built it himself. Construction work took place between nineteen hundred and four and nineteen hundred and five. In nineteen hundred and five, the whole building was successfully completed. Rudolf Štech printed the building its own idea of ideal housing and representation of its building art. So he created a work that still gives the well-deserved attention of all lovers of old architecture.

Now pay attention to the construction itself and its shapes. Notice the specific architectural structure that is so characteristic of this building. The villa consists of two wings which stand in a perpendicular direction towards each other and are moved together. This composition gives the whole house extraordinary dynamics. Look at the main facade. The original appearance of the villa was decorated with beautiful sgraffiti decoration, designed by the famous master Mikolas Ales. These decorative techniques gave the facade an exceptional character and connected the construction with the great name of Czech art.

Let's move on to the dramatic events associated with this place. Every old building has its own destiny, and this villa has had a very moving time. During World War II, namely in nineteen hundred forty four, the city of Pilsen hit a heavy raid. Unfortunately, this tragic moment in history has also had a fatal impact on this memory. The unique sgraffiti decoration on the facade was completely destroyed during the raid. The fire and the destruction of war have cost the house its greatest ornament for decades.

For decades, the building was carrying traces of this wound, but the end of the twentieth century brought a great turn to the better. There was a major reconstruction in nineteen hundred and ninety-five. The experts restored the original sgraffiti decoration and returned its lost beauty to the house. In the same year, this building was officially declared a monument, thereby ensuring its protection for future generations. We can be grateful to all those who participated in this rescue, because thanks to them we can stand before this repaired beautiful construction today.

Stop for a moment and try to imagine what it was like when people came through here when the villa was brand new. Rudolf Štech left a permanent mark of its talent. Today we no longer know the detailed stories of all the people who lived here over the decades, but the walls themselves speak for them. It's a structure that survived the war rage and managed to rise from the ashes thanks to the care of modern times.

We hope you enjoyed the tour of this place. Take advantage now of the opportunity to explore the surrounding streets in South Suburbia, which hide many other interesting stories and buildings. Thank you for your attention, we wish you a wonderful day and we look forward to seeing you next stop with our audio guide.

Tips for visitors

A tour of Štech's villa in Klatov class in Pilsen is planned for morning hours, when sunlight best highlights the rich Neo-Renaissance details on the facade of the building. Due to the location on the busy urban artery, we recommend to monitor the current traffic situation and take advantage of the urban public transport, whose stops are within walking distance or arrive by car. Take your comfortable shoes for a walk around Southern Suburb and a camera with a sufficient memory card. For the best shots of the exterior of the construction, which Rudolf Štech himself designed and built between 1904 and 1905, stand on the opposite pavement from where you can capture the entire facade in full beauty. Since there are no other specific objectives in the immediate vicinity of the monument, according to the available data, focus your program to discover other architectural gems of the wider centre of Pilsen, which is easily available. Families and children will appreciate a calmer pace of movement and the possibility of joining a short stop at the villa with a walk on adjacent parks where small visitors can relax.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings awakening nature around the Štech Villa in South Suburb. The surrounding trees and shrubs are starting to green, which gives the historical shapes of the building a fresh contrast. The lighting is very pleasant thanks to the lengthening days, the sunlight penetrates through the still slightly squeaky trees and creates a fine shadow game on the facade. The atmosphere is calm and ideal for undisturbed contemplation. During this period you will not meet large crowds of tourists, so it is a good time to visit almost at any time of the day. Put on a light jacket or coat because spring weather can be variable and the afternoon wind can cool.

Summer around the villa is marked by fully developed green and warm sunlight. The specificity of this period is a sharp midday light that highlights the details of architecture, but the best atmosphere offers a later evening, when temperatures are slightly reduced and the sun is watering the whole neighborhood with a golden September. In the main summer season, street movement is more lively, so it is recommended that you arrive in the morning to avoid the biggest daily heat and crowds of people. Choose breathable clothes, sunglasses and don't forget the headgear and bottle of drinking water, as the shade in open spaces is not excessive.

Autumn turns Jižní Předměstí into a gallery full of warm colors. The surrounding area of Štech's villa covers carpets from fallen leaves and the sun low above the horizon creates a soft, scattered light, which is the dream of every photographer. The atmosphere is melancholy, quiet and encourages slow walks. The crowds of tourists have already fallen off, so you can enjoy the memory in complete focus. Practical advice is to wear layered clothes, fixed waterproof shoes and a warmer scarf, as autumn fog and dry days can surprise at any hour. The best time for a tour is around noon, when the temperature reaches daily maximum.

Winter gives the villa a completely different dimension and a serious face. If snow dusts the landscape, the whole place looks like a fairy tale. The lighting is very short, it soon gets dark, but silenced light-brown and white tones create a unique and chamber atmosphere. In Advent time and winter months visitors are at least. Due to the cold weather and shorter time of day it is necessary to plan a visit for the early afternoon, ideally around noon. Winter clothing is absolutely necessary, i.e. warm feather jacket, hat, gloves and tight shoes with anti-slip sole, because the sidewalks can freeze and stay out quickly cold without moving.
