Tvrz (1000140024) Fortress
The fortress Jistebnice is a medieval mansion from the 13th century, located on the southeast edge of the village Jistebnice. Originally it served as the seat of the Purkrabi and since 1958 it has been registered as a cultural monument.
It was founded in the 13th century by páni z Rožmberka, when the power of noble families was strengthened in Czech countries and administrative mansions for the administration of the manor were established.
The construction is one story. At the ends of the building there are two semi-cylindrical bastions, while on the west side there is another bastion with access to the fortress. Graveyards were added to the north side of the walls in the 18th century.
In the 15th century, bastion was built near the fort. In 1480, the seat was held by the Kozsky flag from Kozni. After the death of Mikuláš Kozský in 1523 he inherited the stronghold Kuneš Bohdanecký z Hodkova and in Žlebích together with Volf Hazel from Nové Vi in Slavitín. Around 1536 the construction was sold to the city of Tabor, but in 1547 it was confiscated. A year later, the Earl of Gutstejn acquired it and in 1549 it was subsequently purchased by Ladislav z Lobkowicz.
In 1638, part of the fort was demolished, leading to its gradual desolation. At the end of the 17th century, however, the building was restored and a brewery was set up in the building. In 1829, Lobkowicz sold the fort with the entire Jewish estate of John the Magnificent.
Currently, the fortress, its fenced wall and bastion are in a neglected and catastrophic state. The masonry is badly damaged and flows into the premises.
Despite the present state, the Jistebnice fortress is a valuable witness to medieval architecture and management of the estate. It's a place worth visiting for anyone interested in local history.

Seasonal recommendations
In the spring the surroundings of the fortress in Jistebnice awaken to life and the fresh greenery begin to surround its decrepit walls. Light is soft and pleasant for photography during this period, with nature around the building acting fresh. Due to the emergency condition of the building we recommend shoes with good grip because spring rains can create mud on the road. Visit the place in the morning, where the air is the cleanest and the tourists are still few.
The summer months bring the most sunny days and a dense green apron that creates a shadow around the monument. The atmosphere is alive, but due to the emergency condition of the fort, it is necessary to be very careful when moving in its immediate surroundings. In the main summer season, it is best to arrive early in the morning to avoid the biggest crowds and heat. Don't forget the headgear and plenty of fluids.
Autumn in Jistebnice offers melancholy beauty with morning fog and golden trees that highlight the crueliness of the degraded object. The lighting is low in this period and creates interesting shadows on the walls of the fortress. It is necessary to prepare for changing weather, so choose a waterproof jacket and tight shoes to protect you from moisture and slippery surfaces. Ideal is a visit in the afternoon, when the color leaves most glow.
Zimą makes the fortress very strong and lonely, especially when the surrounding landscape is covered with snow or freeze. Short days and cold winds create a harsh but fascinating atmosphere around the historic building. Due to the emergency condition and possible ice areas, be very careful when walking. We recommend very warm clothing and layering, because near old walls can be colder. Plan a visit on clear days when the light is most stable.
