Tvrz Javorník Fortress
Tvrz Javorník is an extinct medieval building located in the municipality of Javorník in Trutnov district. Its remains are today protected as a cultural monument and bear witness to the historic settlement of the region.
The exact time of its creation remains unclear, but the first written mention dates back to 1416, when it was owned by Přech z Javorníka. Given that the village Javorník has been known since 1291, it can be assumed that the fort was built earlier. Historical sources indicate its connection to mining colonization and gold farming, which supported the development of surrounding settlements.
Only small remains have been preserved from the original architecture. The acropolis of the fortress reaches a height of two to three meters. The most important preserved elements include a rectangular cellar made of quarry stone with a large vaulted vault.
The fortress remained in the possession of the masters of Javorníka until 1528 when Martin Radikovský z Hrádku acquired it. Five years later, he sold it to Adam Zilvar from Pilníkov. By joining the Pilgrim Manor, it lost its meaning and gradually fell into oblivion, probably completely desolate during the sixteenth century.
In later times the fort was located on the site of the farm yard and subsequently the inn. After it was demolished, the park was built.
Today, the site of the former fort is part of the park where fragments of the original building are preserved. Although the object no longer exists in its integrity, the preserved cellar offers a rare view of medieval building elements. It is a place suitable for those who seek silent testimony about the mining history of the region.
