Tyršův most is an arc reinforced concrete road bridge over the Elbe River, located in the village Jaroměř and registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This historical construction was built in 1932 to replace older bridges that no longer met local needs. The bridge is a key part of the engineering network across the river and serves as an important link for residents and visitors.

The history of the bridge dates back to the 19th century when a river ford, later replaced by a wooden covered bridge, stood at the site of the current bridge. In 1831 a cornerstone was laid for a new chain bridge, but soon it no longer met the emerging needs of the city. In 1884, the construction of the iron bridge, the construction of which was supplied by the Sobotinská smelter in Moravia, was completed in November of the same year. This bridge, known as the Iraqi Bridge, has served the city for decades.

With increasing traffic intensity in Jaroměři has been developed a project of a new reinforced concrete bridge. The construction began in 1931 with the company engineer Hanauer and the bridge was completed a year later, ceremonially handed over to use on the day of the creation of the independent Czechoslovak Republic on 28 October 1932. This bridge was named after Miroslav Tyrš, which is highlighted by a bronze plaque on the southwest circle.

Architecturally, Tyršův most boasts a monolithic segmented arc from concrete blocks, which is approximately 30 metres long and 10 metres wide. The coastal pillars are decorated with four Columns with bronze letters marking 1832 - 1932 and the inscription Miroslav Tyrš. The bridge road is paved with granite cubes, while the pavement is decorated with a two-colour granite mosaic.

The bridge was declared a cultural monument in 1984 and underwent extensive reconstruction in 2018, which included total sanitation, powder and new insulation. This renewal was awarded by the National Heritage Institute.

The interesting thing is that the stone pillar from the bridge was moved to Sokol Stadium in 1965 and returned only in 2004. The bridge also hosts important engineering networks such as pipelines, electrical lines, communication lines and pipelines.

Today Tyršův most is not only a cultural monument, but also an important element of the city's infrastructure Jaroměř. Its history and architectural value make it an important destination for tourists and locals. Visiting this bridge offers an opportunity to appreciate rich history and architecture, which are an essential part of the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic.

Welcome to the beautiful city of Jaroměř. Legally, stop right there, take a breath and look around you. You're standing in front of one of the very important connections of this town, the Tyrše Bridge. In front of you is the current of the Elbe River, which, with its constant movement, shaped the history and appearance of the whole area. Feel the atmosphere of this place where water, nature and human work meet. What you see before you is not just an ordinary path from one shore to another, but a fascinating testimony about how people's needs have changed and how human reason has progressed in the area of construction.

If you look at this bridge, you see the arc structure of the reinforced concrete. It is a robust and elegant building, which today acts as a self-evident part of the landscape. But to understand why it looks like this, we need to go back much deeper together in time. The history of crossing the Elbe River in this place is a story of a constant search for a better and more resilient solution. Imagine we're in a thousand eight hundred thirty-one. It was this year that the foundation stone was laid for the first of the great bridges, which at that time was chain stone. Chain bridges were the peak of technology at the time, but time and growing traffic demands are relentless.

The city's needs gradually changed. People needed something stronger, something that could handle more weight and more cars. That is why the year came a thousand eight hundred and eighty-four when the construction of the iron bridge was completed. Iron brought a new era of stability and strength, but also these structures began to show signs of fatigue over time or simply no longer met the modern pace of life in Jaroměři. The city needed a solution that was modern, durable and capable of serving future generations without constant repairs.

And so we came to a thousand nine hundred thirty-two. It was this year that there was a great milestone, when a new bridge that you see before you was ceremonially handed over to you. It was built as a replacement for all the previous structures that had already done their duty. This bridge was designed by engineer Hanauer, who then chose very modern material, which was reinforced concrete. This combination of concrete and steel reinforcement made it possible to create a solid arch that effectively transfers weight while acting harmoniously in space above the river.

I now ask you to pay attention to the architecture itself. Look at the line of the bridge, its arches that rely on solid foundations. Note how this building combines the practical function of the road bridge with aesthetic simplicity. He is a typical representative of his time when engineering tried to be effective, but at the same time he did not neglect appearance. Today, the bridge serves not only cars and pedestrians, but it is also part of an important engineering network that creates an invisible but necessary system of connection across the river. Thanks to its quality and importance, Tyršův most is included in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic, which means that it is recognised as a valuable piece of our common history.

Now let's move on to the details that you might miss if you just walked through. I want to direct you to one particular part of the bridge. If you move to the southwest circle, notice the bronze plaque placed there. This small but significant detail tells us who the bridge is dedicated to. The world and the city were named in honor of Miroslav Tyrš. Although the bridge is primarily a technical work, this name gives it a human dimension and reminds us of the personalities that influenced our history. Bronz plaques with time gained its characteristic patina, which only contributes to the feeling of stability and the history of this place.

When you walk on the bridge, feel the Elbe current beneath you. It's fascinating to think how many generations of people have gone through the same place, but they've seen completely different structures. From chains to iron to concrete today. Each of these materials told a different story about what humanity was controlling at the moment. Tyršův most is in this sense the winner who survived and still fulfils his role.

You may also be interested in the fact that bridges are places of meeting and saying goodbye, places where two sides of the city connect. In Jaroměři, Tyršův most has just this role of the conjunctor. It's a place where the daily rush meets the calm of the river. If you look at the stone elements of the bridge, you'll see how the material adapted to the environment. Although the main construction is made of concrete, stone details give construction some seriousness and stability.

Now that you know the story of the creation and details of the construction, I suggest you slowly cross the bridge to the other side. Watch how your view of the city and the river changes while you walk on engineer Hanauer's work. Feel the rhythm of the arches and the sense of security this massive building provides. Try to imagine the noise and enthusiasm that must have existed in the year one thousand nine hundred thirty-two during the ceremony of handing over the bridge into use. It was probably a big event for all the residents of Jaroměře because it brought them a modern connection that they could be proud of.

Tyršův most is proof that even functional construction can be a monument. It doesn't have to be a big palace or a cathedral to have value. The value of this bridge lies in its usefulness, in its technical precision and in the fact that time is recorded in it. From the laying of the first stone in the year one thousand eight hundred thirty-one to the day you walk through it.

Thank you for stopping by this fascinating place. I hope now you see Tyršův most not only as a journey across the river, but as a living history book Jaroměře. Now there's nothing stopping you from exploring this beautiful city. We wish you a pleasant continued journey, many new experiences and beautiful impressions from every corner you visit. Say good-bye to the bridge with a brief look behind you and explore the other secrets waiting for you in Jaroměři. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the Tyrše Bridge is in the spring or autumn season when the weather is pleasant and fewer people meet on outdoor activities. This time of the season also offers beautiful lighting conditions for photo bridge in a quiet atmosphere.

When visiting you take with you a suitable suit according to current weather as well as shoes for comfortable walking. The photo can be particularly attractive in a quiet and bright atmosphere, so taking a camera or mobile phone with you is a good idea.

For photo of the bridge are the best places at the beginning or end of the day when the sun shines directly in the face or from behind. This creates dramatic shadows and illuminates the architecture of the bridge. Also take photos with different angles to capture its historical character.

In the vicinity of the Tyršova Bridge there is a national park Giant Mountains, which can be visited during one day. For families with children it is ideal for short walks or picnics in nature. In addition, the historical centre Jaroměře offers various cultural activities and attractions.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: During the spring season on the Tyršov Bridge in Jaroměři spreads out a wonderful flowering green when nature begins to live again. Sun rays illuminate the bridge and surrounding landscape in fine light, giving the atmosphere a romantic and peaceful character. This time of year is suitable for visiting without fear of excessive crowds, but may still be a mild cold morning, so we recommend wearing a warm fur coat and heels. The best time to walk is in the afternoon when the sun warms up and nature gets full of shine.

Summer: For years, Tyršův most is transformed into a place with a lively atmosphere where sunlight illuminates every angle. Thanks to the warm days, this time is ideal for a long walk or relaxation on the bank of the creek by the bridge. However, in the main summer season more visitors can gather here, which means it is advisable to come to the area earlier to enjoy a place without long waiting lines. Carry sun cream and light clothes for comfort during warm days.

Autumn: In autumn the Tyršův most becomes melancholic but at the same time an attractive appearance with a colourful palette of leaves. The sun becomes less intense and illuminates the bridge in fine shades, creating a calm atmosphere suitable for relaxation or photography. Less people are gathering here in this period, so it is the perfect time to visit without the stress of crowds. We recommend wearing warm clothes and heels for cold evenings.

Winter: Winter brings quiet moments to Tyršův most when the lighting from the moon and stars is the most beautiful. Ice shapes can be seen on the creek by the bridge, which adds a unique look instead. At this time of the year it is advisable to wear warm clothes and shoes with good soles for comfort during cold days. Opening times may be shorter, so notice the messages before visiting and plan your times accordingly.
