Usedlost čp. 12 (Salajna) Homestead

The residence No. 12, known as Salajna, is a cultural monument located in the village Dolní Žandov in the district of Cheb. This estate represents a folk architecture of a closed court of the Cheb type, known as a French house. Built in 1802 near the Šitbořská Brook and the road leading to Lower Zandov, it is part of the village monument zone Salajna. Since 1964 it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic and after reconstruction in the years 2004-2014 it served as a guesthouse.

The origin of the estate can be dated to the beginning of the 19th century, namely 1802, which was a period of rapid industrial development and increased infrastructure activity in Bohemia. Europe was faced with the Napoleonic war conflicts that influenced the continent's political map. The Salajna estate was built as part of the development of the rural environment and served the needs of the population.

It is an architectural example of folk architecture of a closed court of the Cheb type. The residential building is a storey building built on the ground plan of a rectangle with a three-parallelogram layout. The walls are perfectly plastered and the roof has an asymmetric saddle construction covered with roof tiles (bimonas). The cottages located on the northeast side of the yard are a brick storey building with skylights and a counter roof. After reconstruction, the eternite templates were replaced with bimonas. The wooden shed on the southwest side of the yard was restored in 2013 as a replica.

The history of the estate is linked to several key events. In 1964 it was entered in the state list of cultural monuments, which confirmed its historical and architectural value. The reconstruction started in 2004 by new owners who made a number of repairs and renovations. In 2013, a replica of the wooden shed began.

Today the estate serves as a guesthouse, allowing visitors to explore its historical and architectural elements as well as to enjoy a comfortable stay in a unique environment. The estate is open to the public and offers the opportunity to become acquainted with the history and culture of the Lower Zandov region.

The estate No. 12 is not only a monument to architecture, but also a witness to historical changes in the region. Its preservation and reconstruction represent an important contribution to the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic.
