The House of Glauers, also known as J. L. Ziegler's native house, is a historic town building no. 85 in Kopek street in Hradec Kralove. This originally Gothic building from the 16th century underwent Renaissance reconstruction. Since 1958 it has been a protected cultural monument and is currently used for residential and commercial purposes, including a restaurant on the ground floor. The building represents an important architectural monument to the urban development and bears traces of several building stages from the Middle Ages to the New Age.

There are few detailed reports of the oldest history and concrete builders from written sources. However, it is known that the object has Gothic roots and in the 16th century it underwent a significant Renaissance reconstruction. Both the preserved Renaissance shield and part of the inner space come from this period. Over the centuries, the house has been adapted for housing and business needs. Other major structural interventions took place in the late 1960s and 1970s.

Architecturally, it is a three-storey, three-track townhouse with a saddle roof. The main facade oriented to V Kopeček street is narrow and two-axis. On the ground floor there are two arched openings - those on the left with the interpreter and those on the right with the entrance. Their arches are highlighted by a flat archivolta. The ground floor closes the cordon ledge. The windows in the floors are set in profiled shambles, while the second floor is also lined with moldings. The most significant element of the main facade is the Renaissance Arch Shield. The rear facade facing the yard is three axes and divided by the Lizen frames. It contains windows in flat champagne and a triangular shield. The interiors in the street tract on the ground floor are encapsulated with a vaulted vault with lunettes. The central tract carries a segmentally valed vault, while the rear tract along with the other spaces in the house is flat-ceiling. The building also includes a well-preserved vaulted cellar which is connected to the basement areas of neighbouring houses in the street.

The ownership structure and names of individual owners are not detailed in the available sources. The house was used for residential and commercial purposes all the time.

The most important historical event associated with this object is the birth of the priest and the builder Josef Liboslav Ziegler in 1782. In honor of this personality, a memorial plaque was placed on the facade of the house in 1882. The status of monument protection was acquired in 1958.

Today the building is designed as a residential and commercial area with a restaurant on the ground floor. Visitors of Hradec Králové can see this monument while walking the streets of Kopěk and admire its historic facade with Renaissance shield. The building continues to perform its function in the historical centre of the city and reminds of important personalities associated with the Czech national birth.

Welcome to the beautiful city of Hradec Králové. You have just stopped in one of its historic streets, on the street in Kopeček, where a place with very deep roots awaits you. You're standing right in front of a house that people in the neighborhood know under the name Glauer House. At first glance, you may think it's a common part of urban development, but believe me, this object carries fragments of history that go deep into the past of our countries. Feel now the atmosphere of this place, the silent presence of history floating in these narrow alleys.

Now look at the very structure that is right before your eyes. It's a three-storey terraced house that typically resembles an old town center. Notice its narrow facade, which seems to be a two-axis, has two main axes by which it is balanced. Above it stands the saddle roof, which gives the whole house its traditional and stable appearance. But if you raise your sight even higher, you will find what is truly special about this house. Notice the arch shield that decorates the top of the facade. This element is a real treasure. It comes from the Renaissance when architecture sought harmony and beautiful shapes. This shield is living proof that the house underwent a significant reconstruction in the 16th century, although its foundations and original form are even older.

This house does not only have Gothic roots that go back to the 16th century, but it witnessed many changes. Imagine the centuries this object has survived. It was originally built in a Gothic style, which was dominant at the time, but later, at the time of the Renaissance blossom, it was modified to reflect the new era and its aesthetics. It is thanks to this reconstruction that we can now admire the beautiful arc shapes that we look at him. It's fascinating how these different period styles intertwine in one object and how one of them flows into the other.

Now, however, we must move from the building itself to the people who lived here and who have imprinted this place's soul. The Glauers' house isn't just rock and mortar. It's the birthplace of a very important person. In seven hundred and eighty-two, a man was born here, whose name should sound with respect in our history. It was Josef Liboslav Ziegler. If you look at it through the optics of history, you'll see in it much more than just the inhabitants of this house. He was a priest, but also a man who played an extremely important role in the period when our society and national consciousness began to awaken. He was an entrepreneur.

What does it mean to be an engineer? Imagine someone who, at a time when our culture and language were in constant danger, believed in their strength and tried to lead people to their knowledge and love. Ziegler was such a man. His life's journey was inseparable from faith, but also from deep feeling to his own roots. And in this very house, in these rooms, his journey began. Now, when you look at the facade, try to imagine what young eyes were looking at the world from these windows in seven hundred and eighty-two.

To preserve the monument for future generations, it was recognized as a protected cultural monument in the mid-nineteenth century, namely in the year eight hundred and fifty-eight. This means that its historical value is so high that we must not let it be destroyed by modernization or neglect. It's a commitment we have to the past. And in order not to forget the significance of this place, in the year eight hundred and eighty-two a memorial plate was placed on the facade. The record here serves as a silent witness, which resembles the birth of Josef Liboslav Ziegler. Even though time passes and the world around us changes, this board still stands there and reminds us that big stories can start in a regular town house.

Notice how this house has adapted over time to people's needs. While the life of the family has probably taken place here before, today it serves both residential and commercial purposes. On the ground floor there are rooms for guests where people can stop, relax and enjoy food or drink in peace. It's an interesting contrast between the quiet history the house carries and the busy everyday life of a modern city. The house lives, still serves people, but at the same time it keeps its noble and historical face.

If you would like to see the details even deeper, focus on how the house is being incorporated into the entire street picture. It is part of a larger historical entity that forms the soul of Hradec Králové. Every element, from the saddle roof to the Renaissance shield, contributes to a sense of continuity. It's not just an object that's in time, it's an object that's lived through time.

Looking at the house, you can ask yourself how many more secrets remain in its walls. Even though we know his main history, even though we know who was born here, there's always an invisible layer of the stories of all the people who lived here, worked and left. Every stone and every line of facade can have its own storytelling ability if we look at them with sufficient patience and respect.

I hope this short stop at the Glauers' house has brought you to wonder how closely our lives are linked to the places surrounding us. History is not just something in textbooks, it's something you can touch, you can look at, and you can literally stand in.

Now, however, we will not hold you back for too long. Keep walking through these historic streets. Any next step can lead you to another surprise and another story waiting to be discovered. I wish you a beautiful and inspiring journey along Hradec Kralove. I will say goodbye to you, and I wish you that these historical shadows still fascinate you so pleasantly. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

Best time to visit the street It is morning in Kopec, when there is peace and sunlight ideally radiates the historic facade of the houses. You can use your own car or public transport for transport, and check the current connection in the connection search engine. Bring comfortable shoes for walking on historic tiles and a camera. Photography of the exterior of the house U Glauers offers the best footage from the opposite side of the street where the Gothic origin and Renaissance elements of the building stand out. There are other interesting places in the centre of Hradec Králové in the vicinity of the historic house, which can be easily explored on foot during a short walk.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings to the historic streets Hradec Králové awakening nature and fresh air, which attracts to walks. The surroundings of the home home of Josef Leopold Ziegler at the address V Kopěk number descriptive nine are shrouded in the spring colours, the facades of the houses are especially picturesque in the morning sun and daylight gradually extends the time suitable for outdoor exploration of architecture. During this period, the largest crowds of tourists are not yet flowing, which allows a peaceful examination of the outside elements of the house and its surroundings in good technical condition. We recommend to wear a light jacket and tight shoes for occasional spring showers and variable weather. The best time to visit is in the morning, when the streets breathe in peace and the sun's rays pleasantly irradiate the historical facade.

Summer opens the main tourist season full of sunshine and colorful urban activity. Long sun days water ancient roofs and narrow alleys with sharp light, creating interesting shadows and a unique atmosphere of the old town. In this part of the year it is necessary to count on a larger number of visitors flowing through the city centre, which is why it is best to get up and arrive at the house first thing in the morning before the start of the great daily activity. Due to the warm weather, breathable clothes and headgear are useful, as in the heated paved streets there may be a lack of shade. Exterior tours in the morning ensure a pleasant experience without heat or pressure.

Autumn transforms Hradec Králové into a gallery full of warm tones when the leaves of trees in the surrounding area change color to golden and rusty. Early dimming and occasional fog give this historic location a mysterious and nostalgic mood, underscored by muted street lights reflecting on wet tiles. The tourist frequency in the streets is falling significantly, which guarantees an undisturbed experience and the possibility of a detailed examination of the state of the building. For the autumn walk it is necessary to wear a warm coat, scarf and waterproof shoes because the weather is windy and cold. The best time to visit is the afternoon when the low sun creates great lighting conditions for photography.

Winter covers the entire Hradec Králové into silence and occasional snow sheets that change the nature of the historical centre. The lighting at this time of year is very chamberlain, soon getting dark and festive light decoration contributes to a peaceful atmosphere. The movement around the House V Kopeček nine requires caution, because the icy snow can slide, but the construction itself in the winter dress looks very firm and dignified. The basis of the successful expedition is warm winter clothes, hat, gloves and solid shoes with anti-slip soles. The ideal time for a tour is around noon, when daylight is strongest and temperatures reach daily maximum.
