Vila Viktora Kříže, formerly known as Villa Eva, is located in a quiet part of Pardubice on the shore of the Matrix Lake. It represents an important monument to 20th century architecture. The building stands out for its unique interior and exterior design, which makes it not only a cultural monument but also a visual attraction. The house was designed by Karel Řepa and decorated by Josef Salavec in art deco style.

The foundation of the villas is closely related to the architectural changes of the 20th century, when the Art Nouveau retreated in modern directions. In Czechoslovakia, new styles were developed and many buildings were created in the spirit of art deco. Karel Řepa after returning from the studio of his teacher Jože Plečnik began to create family housing, one of which was Villa No. 655 in Pardubice. The plans were modified and the interiors were decorated by Josef Salavec, which focused on art deco style.

The architecture of the villa is characterized by rounded southeast corners with terrace and wooden structures for greenery. The exterior is decorated with an asymmetrically located polygonal windshield with a wooden coat that underlines the uniqueness of the whole design. The interiors are originally decorated with geometrical frames and paintings that remind you of the solution of the Pardubice crematorium's funeral hall.

The villa was built for the builder Victor Cross and originally carried the name Villa Eva. After the return of Karel Řepa to Pardubice, this building was created, which became part of his architectural work. Josef Salavec, interior decorator and book graphics, contributed to the unique appearance of art deco-style space.

One of the main attractions is the southern bird singing room with original painting of Josef Salavec. This decoration, which comes out during night lighting, resembles Asian culture and gives space to a meditative atmosphere.

Today Vila Viktora Kříže is not only an architectural monument, but also a place worth visiting thanks to its unique design and historical value. It is located in an accessible location overlooking Matiční lake, which makes it an ideal place to relax and study architectural details.

Vila Viktora Kříže represents an important contribution to the history of Czech architecture and testifies to the development of new styles of the 20th century. Its unique connection with Art Deco and Art Deco together with historical elements makes it a cultural monument and a visually attractive destination for visitors.

Welcome to Pardubice, one of the most peaceful and beautiful parts of the city, in Bílé Předměstí. Stop for a moment, take a breath and feel the surroundings. Right now, you're standing in front of a building that is a silent witness to the transformation of a century. The Vila Viktora Kříže stands before you. If you look around you, you will notice that you are in a relaxation zone, in the immediate vicinity of the Matrix Lake. This position was not random. Imagine what this place looked like almost a century ago, when silence ruled here, only interrupted by the shattering of leaves and the sounds of water from a nearby lake. It is this harmony with nature that gives the villa its special charm and atmosphere of peace that you feel today. Let us now look together at how this building was created and at what time it was born. It's 1926. Czechoslovakia is a young state in which optimism, faith in progress and desire for modernity prevail. It is in this spirit that this villa was built, which was called Villa Eva at the time of its creation. It's a name that carries some finesse and elegance, which is exactly what the authors were trying to express. The foundation of the villa falls into a period when a fascinating turn took place in the architecture. The older, very decorative and organic shapes of the Art Nouveau, which we knew from the late nineteenth century, began to slowly retreat. There was a new era, an era of modern directions, looking for a new language to express beauty and luxury. Now pay attention to the very form of the house. When you look at the villa, feel it as a whole. The architecture of this house was the result of the collaboration of two talented men. The building design itself created Karel Řepa, while its decoration and aesthetic details were responsible for Josef Salavec. Together, they chose a style that was the highlight of modernity at the time, and that was the art deco style. Look at the facade and feel its rhythm. Art deco was characterized by a combination of geometrical purity and luxury appearance. It's not just an ordinary house, it's a visual attraction that should emit the prestige and taste of its owner. Notice how the building presents itself around. Even though you are now in the exterior, try to imagine that the uniqueness of the design you see from the outside continues to the interior. According to historical records, the interior is as significant as the exterior. It is this integrity, when the architect and decorator worked in harmony, that makes Villa Viktor the Cross an important monument to the architecture of the twentieth century. Look up, watch the lines of the house and think about how powerful the idea of modern housing was different from what we know today. At that time, modernity was synonymous with precision craft and thought-out detail. When we talk about personalities, we have to mention Victor Cross himself, for whom this building was intended. Although we may not know all the details of his personal life, the very existence of this villa tells us the story of a man who valued quality, beauty and peace. To choose a place near Maths Lake in Bílé Předměstí meant to seek refuge from the noise of the city, but also to want to live in this sanctuary surrounded by modern art. It's a story about the desire to combine civilization and nature into one harmonious whole. Now, I want to invite you to an interesting thing that may not be visible at first sight, but it is crucial to understand this place. Vila Viktora Kříže is not just an ordinary family house, it is basically the embodied history of the architectural transition. If you realize that the Art Deco was filled with floral ornaments and corrugated lines, then you will see that the art deco, which represents the River and Salavec here, has brought order, symmetry and brighter structures. This villa serves as a bridge between two worlds. It's fascinating to see how one building meets a desire for decoratism with a new sense of simplicity and functionality. It's basically a geometrical poem in stone and plaster. Try walking around the building slowly now. Feel how the view of the villa changes depending on where you stand. Watch the house mirror in the atmosphere of the surrounding park and lake. It's where time stopped. By the time the villa was built, it was probably a symbol of a new beginning after the First World War. New styles developed throughout Czechoslovakia, and this Pardubice pearl is one of the best examples of how the world's art deco trends adapted to our circumstances. When you look at the villa, you might wonder why it's so important to us today. The answer lies in her authenticity. At the time of mass construction and uniform blocks of houses, such a villa is a reminder of the time when souls and individual approaches were inserted into each project. Every element you see here has been carefully thought out. From the overall layout of the premises to the smallest decorative details that Josef Salavec has brought to the project. All of these together are cultural monuments that teach us how people perceived beauty and comfort in 1926. Now that you have looked at the villa and learned of its origin, I suggest you remain in this calm for a while. Look again at the line of the house, see the proximity of the Matrix Lake and imagine how people were walking around here ten decades ago in contemporary clothing, discussing news from all over the world and admiring the modern shapes of their time. This villa is more than just a building, it's a time capsule that brings us to an era of elegance and optimism. At the end of your stop at Villa Victor Cross, thank you for your attention. I hope you felt the same fascination in this place as I did. This building reminds us that architecture is not only about walls and roofs, but about the emotions and dreams of the people who created it. Now we invite you to explore the beauty of Bílé Předměstí. Walk to the shore of the lake, get inspired by the surrounding greenery and gradually discover other hidden treasures of our Pardubice. I wish you a pleasant continuation of the journey and many new experiences in discovering the history of our city. Goodbye.
