The Water Mill in the Deep Mashouvky was a rare technical monument, standing on the Plenkovický stream in the northern part of the village. This was a unique example of a cylindrical mill with turbine drive, protected between 1995 and 2013 as a cultural monument. Its value consisted mainly of preserved machinery from the pre-war factory Union and the Art Nouveau facade, which reflected technical progress and aesthetics of the first half of the nineteenth century.

The first mention of the mill comes from the Imperial Prints of 1824, which confirms its existence in the first half of the nineteenth century. At that time industrialization was developed in the Czech countries, which also affected the construction of water mills. The mill served as a one-way building with a residential area, a mill and a refrigerator. The operation was provided by Francis's turbine with a knee tube, while the pond on the Plenkovice stream filled the role of a storage tank for a stable flow of water.

Architecturally, the mill differed from the Art Nouveau decoration of the facade, which distinguished it from ordinary agricultural buildings. The building was built parallel to the dam of the pond, with a concrete water tank attached perpendicular to it. In the interior, there are passages for the belt drive that document the original technical solution. The most valuable part was the machine kit from the Union factory, especially four cylindrical stools - one four-cylinder and two two-cylinder. These machines represent a rare technical document of pre-war milling production.

In 2012, the Regional Authority of the South Moravian Region decided to transfer the milling equipment to another building to prevent further demise of the mill. When it was in a fourth-degree emergency state in 2013, it was already without roof and without use. It gradually decomposed, even though the machinery was saved and is now exhibited in museums or technical collections.

Today the mill no longer exists, but its remains are a valuable technical document. The surrounding area consists of a Plenkovický stream and a small pond which served as a storage tank. In addition, the municipality of Hluboké Mašůvky does not have any other significant historical monuments around it.

Although the mill has disappeared, its importance for the history of technology and architecture remains intact. The preserved machines and technical elements are evidence of the engineering art of the time and remind us of the importance of water mills in agricultural and industrial development. For lovers of history and technology, this monument is an interesting example of how technology and architecture intertwined. Despite the disappearance, it is worth visiting the surrounding countryside and exploring preserved technical relics.

Welcome to this picturesque water mill in Deep Mashouvka. You are standing in a place where hundreds of years ago the Plenkovický stream turned into a small pond whose water was powered by wheels of mill. In front of you is a simple but impressive building - a single-traction mill, which served not only as a place where grain was grinding, but also as a home for families who lived here. His walls are now silent about the past, but their face - decorated with fine Art Nouveau elements - suggests that people here worked with love for details.

Let's go back to when the mill was still alive. The first written mention of it dates back to the year eighteen hundred and twenty-four, from the so-called Imperial Fingerprints - the collection of maps and records which at that time served as official proof of property. This means that already in the first half of the nineteenth century he stood here on the bank of the creek, where water from the pond turned its mechanisms. The mill was not only a work facility, but also a part of the village's life - its walls knew not only the noise of grinding stones, but also the voices of the people who lived here.

Now look at his facade. Although time and weather have left traces, it is still possible to see the fine Art Nouveau details that gave him grace. These elements - such as decorated mansions or fine niche - were typical of the architecture of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The mill was designed not only to be functional but also aesthetic - something that was rare at the time for work buildings.

The interior of the mill was divided into several parts. Here was the mill, where the grain was turned into flour, and next to it the fridge, where the chilled food was stored. The motion of the mill was provided by modern technology - Francis's turbine, which used the power of water from the pond. The turbine was connected to the knee tube, which was a system that allowed efficient energy transmission. In the fridge, you can still see holes for the belt drive that connected individual machines. The whole facility was equipped with machinery which was progressive for its time.

Now pay attention to what the mill has experienced. In the year two thousand and twelve, he decided to save his mill by transferring it to another object. It was an attempt to preserve its history, but the mill itself was threatened in the year two thousand thirteen at the fourth stage of the emergency - it was without roof and without use. Although it stands as a ruin today, its existence is important. It was a unique example of a cylindrical mill with turbine drive, which made it a rare technical monument.

The interesting thing is that the mill was protected as a cultural monument between nine hundred ninety-five and two thousand thirteen. During this time he was considered an important part of the inheritance which is worth preserving. Its existence shows how people have adapted to nature in the past and how technology and life have always been closely linked.

Take another look at this place before you leave. Though the mill is silent today, its walls carry stories of many generations. It stands here as a reminder of how important it was for our ancestors to use the power of water and how people tried to combine work with beauty. If you want, you can go further around the area and explore other hidden corners of the area. Whether you choose to stay or move on, I hope that this mill has taken your interest and that its history has inspired you.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this place. May the rest of the day bring you many beautiful moments.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit the Water Mill in Deep Mashouvky is in spring or autumn when the weather is pleasant and the surrounding nature is rich in color. In spring you can see the flow of water in the Plenkovický stream in full swing, which gives the place a living character. Autumn visit offers a calmer atmosphere and an opportunity to see the surrounding forests in the colour of the leaves.

In summer, the place may be busy and in winter there may be limited possibilities of inspection due to snow or frozen pond.

Transportation by car is the easiest way to get here. If you arrive by public transport, I recommend to inform you about the current connections to the village Hluboké Mašůvky because the connection may not be regular.

When visiting, wear comfortable shoes because the way to the mill can be on uneven terrain. Next, bring a map or navigation so you can easily navigate around. If you want to take pictures, don't forget enough memory or external disk because historical buildings and surrounding nature offer lots of beautiful scenes.

The site is historic and natural, so it fits in to prepare for different conditions.

The best places for photography are around the pond and the facade of the mill itself in sunny weather. The sunlight hits the facade by creating interesting shadows and contrasts. I recommend shooting early in the morning or in the evening when the light is softer and the place looks quieter.

The direct sun at noon can create strong shadows and dazzle unnecessarily.

In the vicinity of the mill there is a village Hluboké Mašůvky where you can visit other historical objects. If you have time, go to the Plenkovice creek and look around. The pond and the stream offer an opportunity to relax and observe nature. There are also other interesting places within 30 minutes' walk, but the exact recommendations are provided only for the village Hluboké Mašůvky and the pond.

The village and its surroundings offer a quiet environment and an opportunity to know local history.

For families with children, a visit to the mill is a great opportunity to explore history and nature. The kids can look at the old building and see how the mill worked. In the vicinity of the pond, children can run and play while adults view the surrounding landscape. I recommend taking some games or painting with you to make your visit even more pleasant.

The site offers a combination of educational and entertainment elements for children.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring In the spring months the water mill in the Deep Mashouvky offers a unique combination of awakening nature and historical atmosphere. The surrounding area turns into a green region where the first flowers appear between trees and bushes and the birds sing in full force. The light of the sun, which lingers over the horizon for a long time, creates soft shadows and gives the monument a calm, almost fairytale mood. The water in the mill stream can still be cold, but the air is pleasantly refreshing. I recommend visiting the mill in March or April, when nature is the most lively, but the crowds of tourists are not as large as in the summer months. It is convenient to wear light but warm clothes - in the morning and in the evening it can be cold while the noon is pleasantly warm. The best time is early morning or late afternoon when the light is the most beautiful and the monument seems most magical.

Summer In the summer months, the water mill becomes a popular destination for tourists who come here in the sunlight and warm weather. The surrounding area is full of green, but also insects that can be annoying in hot days. The light is bright and direct, which highlights the details of the old walls and technical equipment mill. The water in the stream is warmer, which may be pleasant with a short sitting on the shore. In the main summer season (July and August) it is recommended to come early in the morning to avoid crowds that often gather around noon. Light, breathable clothes, hat and sunglasses, or insect repellent are suitable. If you are planning a visit on hot days, take plenty of water and choose the newer places.

Autumn Autumn brings golden and red leaves to the Deep Mashouvka, which create contrast with the historic mill construction. The sunlight is softer than summer, but still strong enough to illuminate the details of the monument. The air is clean and colder, which gives the visit a calm and nostalgic atmosphere. The water in the stream is cooling, but the surrounding nature is the most beautiful in September and October. I recommend visiting the mill these months when there are fewer tourists than in summer, but the weather is still favourable. Suitable is warmer clothes because evenings can be cold, and comfortable shoes because forest trails can be wet. The best time is the afternoon when the sun shines oblivion and the color of the leaves shines most.

Winter In the winter months, the water mill in Deep Mashouvka will turn into a quiet and mysterious place where the snow cover and ice on the stream create a unique atmosphere. The light is short and weak, but the winter sun gives the memory a special charm. The surrounding area is quiet because most visitors prefer a warmer period. The water in the stream can be frozen, which adds a magical impression to the scenery. I recommend visiting the mill in December or January, when nature is the most frozen and the quietest. Suitable is warm but comfortable clothes that protect against cold and snow. The best time is the afternoon when the sun shines at the highest and the monument is best lit.
