The hunting castle Bílá is a unique historical monument in the Frýdek-Místek district, built at the beginning of the 20th century near the Smrdává stream. Its original wooden architecture includes a shingles roof and a prism two-storey corner tower. In 2010 it was officially declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, which underlines its historical and cultural value.

The castle was built in 1906 on the intention of Archbishop František Salesky Bauer, who then ruled over the Archbishop of Olomouc. Bílá was one of the property of Olomouc Archbishops and was a popular place for summer stay and hunting. The castle served as the summer residence of Archbishop Bauer, which reflected his important role in society at that time.

Architectural is a single-storey wooden building with shingles roof and two-storey prism corner tower. It consists of two main parts: residential towers and residential "palaces." At the top of the tower there is a balcony, while the windows are equipped with shutters. The building is entered through the porch followed by a room with tiled stove and period chandelier of hunting trophies. The floors are connected by a staircase lined with antlers.

Since its inception, the castle Bílá belonged to the property of Olomouc Archbishops, namely František Salesky Bauer. In 2010 it was officially declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Interesting features of the chateau are the period chandelier from hunting trophies in the interior and the original horse show, which serves its purpose today. There is a new chapel of St. Hubert, consecrated by Bishop Lobkowicz at Hubert Mass in 2008.

Today the castle serves as an accommodation and is available for visitors. The village Bílá can be reached by road I / 56 from the village Hlavatá, where it is separated from the road I / 35, or from the village Ostravice around the water tank Chance and through some settlements of the village Staré Hamry. The green tourist mark leading to the castle can be found from the Black settlement, continuing to the Masaryk cottage. The blue-marked trail goes around White and goes from Semska to top of Bobek.

Visiting a hunting castle offers a view of the past, when Czechoslovakia tried to consolidate its identity and cultural heritage. Architecture reflects the style of history and its original function as Archbishop Bauer's summer residence. Tips for visitors

For the best experience we recommend a visit in the late spring period or autumn when the surrounding nature is the most beautiful and light on the wooden façade looks gentle.

If you're interested in photography, the best light is early in the morning when the sun hits the corner tower and highlights the texture of the shingles roof.

You can reach the castle by car or public transport.

Take with you comfortable shoes suitable for nature walks and plenty of drinking water. If you plan to stay longer at the Chance water tank, protection against sun or insects may also be useful.

In the surroundings you can visit the wooden church of St. Bedřich or explore the surrounding water tank Chance. For families with children is a place suitable for a peaceful walk in nature, but always keep the children under supervision, especially when you are approaching the water.

Themed route

1. The wooden church of St. Bedřich, a religious place. This building is interesting with its wooden appearance and historical significance. 2. Castle Bílá, hunting castle. The main destination of a hunting trip. 3. Water tank Chance, water surface. This area offers beautiful views of the water and a quiet environment.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring, the castle will be surrounded by fresh greenery and flowering trees, creating a fresh and promising atmosphere. The light in this period is delicate and pleasant for photo facade. We recommend to dress in layered clothes because the weather is variable, and set off in the morning before the main tourist stream starts.

The summer months bring a full bloom of nature and intense sunlight that highlights the details of the building. The air is hot and there is summer satisfaction around the castle. Because of the largest number of visitors, it's best to come first thing in the morning. Remember light clothes, hat and plenty of drinking water.

In autumn, the gardens and surrounding forests turn into gold and red tones, adding a mysterious and melancholy mood to the hunting lodge. There is often fog here in the morning. Suitable are waterproof shoes and a warm sweater. The ideal time to visit is late afternoon, when the sun throws long shadows.

In winter, the monument works calmly and sharply, especially if it is covered by a layer of snow, which will dampen all sounds. The atmosphere is intimate and quiet. It is necessary to wear very warm clothes and tight shoes.
