Chocomyšl Castle stands in the village of Chocomyšl in the Domažlice district, southwest of its center, on the shore of Chocomyšlský Pond. It was built in the eighteenth century on the site of an older fortified manor and was meant to become a prestigious residence and administrative center for the estates of the counts Černín of Chudenic in western Bohemia.
The village itself is mentioned as early as 1365 as the property of Václav of Chocomyšl. It belonged to the lords of Chocomyšl until the second half of the fifteenth century, when it was acquired by Bavarian knights from Wildenfeld. The fortified manor is first mentioned in 1545, when Wolf of Wildenfeld had his property entered into the land registers. However, it probably stood there much earlier. In the years 1580 and 1583, Heinrich the Elder Žákavec of Žákava purchased both parts of Chocomyšl. The village then belonged to his family for a hundred years. The Žákavecs lived mainly in the neighboring Srbice, but they also expanded the Chocomyšl fortified manor into a small castle during the seventeenth century.
After the death of the last Žákavec, Václav Antonín, in 1681, the owners changed rapidly. Ignác František Wunschwitz struggled with financial problems and held the indebted estate for only three years. A court assessment from that time describes the castle in rather poor condition, with ceilings or roofs missing in some parts.
In 1711, the guardianship administration purchased the estate for the young count František Josef Černín.
