Závada (Petrovice u Karviné) Castle

The defect of Záda is located in the village of Záda in Petrovice u Karviné and dates back to the mid-15th century. It served as an administrative centre for local land, reflecting the changing political dynamics of the region over time. Despite modernization, which has removed many original architectural elements, it remains evidence of historical changes from the Duchy of Teschen through various owners, including periods under the Habsburg monarchy, Czechoslovakia, Poland and Nazi Germany.

The origin of the castle is connected with the estate of Skoczów under Těšín Duke Přemek II. His first documented mention is in 1447 as part of this property. The ownership changed over time, including Mikuláš Brodecký in 1487 and Bartoloměj Tamfeld z Tamfeldu by 1570. In the same year Duke Fridrich Kazimír transferred his ownership to the town of Fryštát, thereby increasing its importance. By 1796 Vojtěch Gussnar z Komora bought it as a separate property.

Architecturally, Záda castle underwent significant transformations, especially after 1925 when T. Koziel modernised the structure. This led to the loss of many historical architectural elements, which left only the central part with a two-storey building and a covered roof intact. Some arched rooms on the ground floor have been preserved, offering a look into his past.

Remarkable data include Jan Larisch - Mönnich before 1796, Vojtěch Gussnar z Komora in 1796, and later Jan Farník after Gussnar tenure. Po-1925, T.
