Židovský dům čp. 600, located on the street Bíkova in Boskovice, is a historical monument built in the Empire style by architect Mathias Flochem in 1826. This house served as the seat of the Jewish German school and the rabbi's apartment, a key element of the history of Jewish communities in Bohemia. Since 2014 it has been hosting a museum with the exhibition of Jewish neighborhoods in Czech countries.

The creation of today's Jewish house is closely linked to the fire that burned down the older municipal house and the Jewish ghetto in 1823. This tragic incident led to the construction of a new building according to the design of architect Mathias Floch. The creation of this building was linked to a wider historical context, including the Josephine reforms, which aimed at modernising society and also included educational aspects for minorities such as Jews.

The architecture of the building is a typical example of the Empire, a style created in France in the early 19th century and widely spread throughout Europe. The Empire is manifested by a two-storey building with a saddle roof, ochre facade and white elements. On the ground floor there are arches around the windows, which gives the construction characteristic aesthetic features of this architectural style.

The building has been transformed several times over the years by its functions and owners. After the start of the Jewish German school in 1854 it became the centre of Jewish education, where also known scholars and later known personalities such as Hermann Ungar or Abraham Ticho were active. After the abolition of the Jewish Main School in 1921, the building was converted into Czech national school classes and a municipal library.

Among the key events that took place within this building is the life of Rabbi Abraham Placzek, whose memorial plate is on the facade. A bakery for the production of traditional maces was located in the ground floor area, which adds another cultural layer of this historic building.

Today, Židovský dům čp. 600 presents itself as a museum with the exhibition of Jewish neighborhoods in Czech countries, which is divided into three rooms. The exhibition gives visitors a view of the historical and architectural development of Jewish neighborhoods whose environment is reconstructed here by documents, photographs and models. The museum's accessibility allows visitors to learn about the rich history of Jewish communities in Bohemia.

Visiting the Jewish House No. 600 offers not only a view of the architectural gem, but also a deep insight into the history and culture of Jewish communities in Czech countries. It is a place that recalls the importance of memory and recognition of the past for a better understanding of the present.

Welcome to Boskovice. You're standing in front of one of the most important and fascinating building units in this part of town. In front of your eyes is the Jewish Municipal House, which carries the six hundred in local records. Do you feel the strange atmosphere of a place that has been the heart of one community for many years? This house is not just a wall and a roof, it is a living witness to many years of human life, faith, teaching and transformation that this country has been through. Feel your presence in this space because this is where history meets the present. In order to fully understand the importance of this building, we need to go back deep into the past with you two centuries ago. Imagine Boskovice in the early nineteenth century. In a thousand and eight hundred and twenty-two three, a great disaster occurred in this area. The fire that burned down the old municipal house left nothing but emptiness and the need for a new center for the local community. This event was a test of resistance, but also an opportunity for recovery. So it happened in the year one thousand eight hundred twenty-two and six, when this new house was completed. It was a symbol of a new beginning, a construction that was meant to be not only resilient, but also dignified and representative. Now pay attention to the very form of the building that surrounds you. Look at its overall structure and how it fits into the street of Proteva. This house is built in an empire style. If you imagine this expression, think of peace, balance and a certain grandeur. At that time, this style was characterised by an effort for order and harmony, which was exactly what the community needed after the devastating fire. Although it may not seem as conspicuous today as some other historical styles, in its lines and in the overall balance of the facade you feel the desire for stability. Feel how the house with its presence determines the nature of the whole area and how its solid structure emits a sense of security and a lasting tradition. But this house was not just an ordinary house for living. It was a key element in the history of Jewish communities in our countries. He served as the seat of a Jewish German school, which means that there was constant learning, there were new generations formed and there was knowledge passed on. It was a space full of students, teachers and discussions. At the same time, there was the rabbi's seat. Imagine those steps in the corridors, prayers and calls about faith and the law that have been going on here for decades. The house was a centre where daily learning was linked to spiritual guidance. Now let's move on to the people who made this place alive. The history of this house is inseparable from the names that left their mark. In the year a thousand eight hundred fifty-one lived here and worked Abraham Placzek. He wasn't just an ordinary man, he was a Moravian Earth rabbi, a figure with enormous influence and significance for the whole area. His presence here gave the building a sense of high authority and spiritual depth. But the stories of this place are much wider. Names like Hermann Ungar, Abraham Ticho or Rosa Fleischmannová are part of the wider fabric of history that this house represents. Even though their lives could be different, they're all connected to this historical context. Names like Georgi Dimitrov or Erik Jan Hanussen remind us again how complex and profound the fate of people who were part of Jewish culture and how strongly their tracks have been written into the history of our countries. You may be asking what is happening to this place today. The house has undergone another great transformation. Since the year two thousand and fourteen have been hosting a museum. The school is no longer here or home to the rabbi, but the house has gained a new, precious role - the role of the guardian of memory. The exhibition you can find here is dedicated to Jewish neighborhoods in Czech countries. It is a journey that will guide you through the history of communities, their traditions, their daily lives and the tragedies that have reached them. It is an opportunity to understand how Jewish existence shaped our culture and how powerful it left in our common heritage. Something that might interest you in your viewing is the constant transformation. How did the place that had to come out of the ashes after the fire become such a stable center of education and belief, and how did it become a place where we could study the past in peace today? There is a certain mystery of human will - the ability to rebuild something beautiful and dignified even after everything burned down. Now I want to invite you to further explore. Don't be afraid to come in and get carried away by the stories that are hidden here in every corner. Look at the exposition, feel the atmosphere and try to imagine the people who lived here hundreds of years ago, learning and praying. Let yourself be carried away by the history you are now so close to. I wish you a beautiful and inspiring journey through history in this exceptional house. Goodbye.
