Zvonice (Dřevohostice) Belfry
The bell tower in the village Dřevohostice, located in the Přerov district, is a Renaissance tower built in 1521. It is located near the church of St. Havel and is connected to the Czech-brotherly cemetery. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The tower was built at the time of the spread of the religious movement of Czech-brotherhood and in 1581 it was repaired, which remained preserved to this day. In 1590-1640, it was surrounded by brick wall and under it was a tomb for Czech-brotherly creed.
It is a free-standing, four-storey walled building with a total height of 25 metres and a wall of 20 metres. The tower ends with a tent roof with a yellow poppy and a cross. The facade is divided by a profiled ledge and waist under the bell floor, which has broken windows. The masonry measures 135 cm on the first floors and 95 cm on the bell floor. On the facade there is a sun clock.
The history of bells is associated with war events, when the original four bells were recited during world wars. After the war, two of them were saved, including the bell of Maria, which was broken in 1721 and weighing 685 kg. Despite the crackdown in 1948, it was hand-operated by 1985 and electrically by 2020 when it burst.
Today, there are three bells on the stool from 1745: a 1921 death bell and two new bells written in 2021 at Tomáškova- Dytrych. The first one was replaced by the bell Maria, weighing approximately 640 kg with the relief of the Virgin Mary of Svatestýnský. The second, named St. Havel, weighs about 350 kg and has the relief of the hermit of St. Havel. Both bells were blessed on August 14, 2021 by Archbishop John Graubner. The drive is electric with remote control, the original bell Maria was placed on the ground floor.
In 1963 the bell tower was entered in the state list of cultural monuments under the number 40470 / 8-402. The reconstruction took place in 2016 during which a bronze case was placed in the makovika.
This bell tower is a unique architectural and historical testimony about the religious diversity of the region, offering insight into Czech-brotherhood and traditional bell art.

The bell tower was created at a time when the religious movement of Czech brotherhood was spreading.
