Archeopark pravěku Všestary Archaeological site
Archeopark pravěku Všestary stands as a unique place in Czech education and туrism. It is intended not only for people interested in archaeology, but also for families with children and school excursions. Its main principle is so-called live archeology - a method that allows visitors to understand life in prehistoric times through visualism and direct contact with restored objects and regular buildings.
The project was built gradually. Its beginnings date back to 1997, when the Centre for Experimental Archaeology under the guidance of the Doctor began to be built. PhDr. Radomír Tichý, Ph.D., who runs the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hradec Králové. Since its inception, the centre has been created solely using prehistoric processes and technologies. It was based on archaeological findings in the area of eastern Bohemia and supplemented by findings from other regions of Bohemia and Moravia as well as from abroad. The project was built under the auspices of a civil association closely cooperating with the University of Education in Hradec Králové. Since 2000, the centre has been open to school excursions, and until 2010 only during summer months and during spring and autumn weekends.
Archeopark focuses on the agricultural period of prehistoric age from neolithic (younger stone age, around 5500 B.C.) to the hallucination (older iron age, around 400 B.C.). On the territory of the Czech Republic it is a unique model construction construction of a prehistoric residential area with residential buildings, production facilities, cult area and burial ground. Visitors see a house with a stake structure from the older Bronze Age, a house from the younger Bronze Age and a deep semi-ground from the turn of the Iron Age. Production facilities are dedicated to cutting and grinding stone or bone processing, including all basic types of ceramic furnaces, bronze production and construction pits. The archepark also stores a replica of the boat, which took part in several international voyages across the Mediterranean.
Today's form of archaeopark has been implemented since 2013 with the support of the municipality Všestary, which provided the land for the project. Doc. Quiet and his collaborators took advantage of the rich experience gained in foreign traineeships in similar parks. The area offers visitors about four hundred exhibits including axes, flaps, bronze swords, helmets, Latin spades, keys and coins. A large part consists of authentic replicas of prehistoric artifacts made of stone, glass, copper, bronze, iron and other originally used materials, including copies of mammoth. Thanks to the absence of the existing archive of original excavations, the project team created the exhibits itself. This means that exhibits are in much better shape than archaeological originals - they are not shabby, chewed or corroded. However, the visitor has the opportunity to compare reproduction with a few originals present on the premises and thus recognize the true state of the objects after thousands of years in the country.
Cave, graves, mine shafts, interactive boards and a giant landscape model also contribute to the attractiveness of the area. Všestary has thus become a place where archeology becomes experience and experience for the general public.

The Prehistory Archaeopark in Všestary is, according to available information, the only archaeopark of this comprehensive nature operating in the Czech Republic. It introduces life in prehistoric times using a method called experimental archaeology. The main approach is visualization: things are presented here in a way that allows visitors to imagine them in the everyday life of prehistoric people.
The collection comprises approximately four hundred exhibits. Among them you will find axes, flints, bronze swords and helmets, Celtic picks, keys and coins, along with replicas of hundreds of other prehistoric objects. The grounds are complemented by caves, graves, mining shafts, interactive displays and a giant landscape model. The replicas were created from stone, glass, copper, bronze, iron and other period materials, for instance as copies of mammoth ivory. The University of Hradec Králové did not have its own archive of original excavations, so it had to make the objects itself. Most of the exhibits therefore are not worn or corroded and show the form that prehistoric people gave them. A few originals displayed alongside the replicas allow comparison of how things looked long ago and how they appeared after excavation.
The foundation of the entire place is the Centre for Experimental Archaeology, built since 1997 exclusively using prehistoric methods and technologies. It is based mainly on finds from eastern Bohemia, supplemented by knowledge from other parts of Bohemia, Moravia and abroad. Since the beginning, the project has been led by Radomír Tichý, now head of the Department of Archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Hradec Králové. Other faculty staff and students also contribute to the work.
The Centre focuses on the agricultural period of prehistory, from the younger Stone Age to the older Iron Age, roughly between the years five thousand five hundred and four hundred before our era. A model version of a prehistoric settlement was created here, featuring residential houses, workshops, a sacred precinct and a burial ground. Standing here is a house with timber post construction from the older Bronze Age, a house from the younger Bronze Age and a sunken semi-subterranean dwelling from the transition between the older and younger Iron Age. In the workshops, stone is split and ground and bones are processed. All basic types of ceramic kilns are present as well as a place for bronze production. In the centre, a replica of a boat was also built, which took part in international voyages across the Mediterranean.
School excursions have been coming here since two thousand. The municipality of Všestary has supported the project from the beginning and provided the land for the Prehistory Archaeopark. Experience from foreign internships and previous constructions was applied, for instance in the building of a large house from the younger Stone Age.
Tips for visitors
The best time to visit the Archeopark of prehistoric Všestary is in favourable conditions, usually from May to October. This timeframe offers ideal conditions for exploring the premises and participating in live archaeological events. The natural landscape of Eastern Bohemia is the most beautiful at this time, which increases the overall impression of the visit.
Parking and transport: The place is available both by car and public transport. For those who travel by car, there are parking lots nearby. Public transport offers a comfortable connection, while you can verify the current possibilities in the route search engine. Traffic information can change from time to time, so we recommend checking it before the trip.
What to take with you: When visiting an archaeologist it is advisable to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, because exploring the area involves walking on outdoor roads. Also remember to bring your sunglasses, umbrella (in case of unpredictable weather) and water. If you're interested in a photo, don't forget the camera.
Photography: The best places for photography are where the reconstruction of prehistoric buildings and life is located. The sunny morning or evening offers the best lit conditions for capturing details. Natural lights in these classes intensify the beauty of archaeological reconstruction.
What to visit in the surroundings: In the vicinity of the archaeopark there are several attractions that can be explored within 30 minutes. These are natural parks and historical monuments of eastern Bohemia, where you can enjoy beautiful landscapes and learn more about regional history.

For kids
Imagine you go back to the past, and suddenly a beautiful landscape, full of forests, rivers, and apparently tall trees spread out in front of you. This place is Všestary, where people lived thousands of years before our time.
There was a tribe that was very defensive. They had strong fortified settlements to protect themselves from dangerous neighbors. It was like a game called "Warcraft" where they had to fight to survive and conquer new territory.

Seasonal recommendations
Spring brings the awakening of nature and fresh greenery that surrounds prehistoric buildings. The atmosphere is full of new beginnings and the landscape around the site is grafted in growth. I recommend moisture-resistant shoes because the terrain can be muddy after melting snow. An ideal visit in the morning is when the air is the cleanest.
The summer season offers the brightest light and full bloom of surrounding vegetation, which underlines the authenticity of the area. Expect more visitors in the main season, so it is advisable to come first thing in the morning. Remember light clothes, cover your heads and plenty of fluids to fight the heat.
Autumn gives its golden leaves and morning mist a mysterious and melancholy touch to the memory. Nature is slowly resting, creating a peaceful environment for contemplation over history. It is suitable for layered clothing and visit in late afternoon hours when natural light is softest.
In winter there is silence and the landscape is often covered with snow, which highlights the geometry of archaeological structures. The atmosphere is rough, but impressive and less disturbing. It is necessary to have warm thermo-heating and waterproof footwear. Before travelling, check for shortened opening times typical of cold months.
