Centrální hřbitov v Českém Těšíně, located in the cemetery street northwest of the city centre, is a cultural monument set in the history of the interwar period. Architect Eduard David designed this cemetery, which was built between 1920 and 1928 by the company Eugen Fulda. Its architectural elements include historical details with baroque and empirical features, reflecting the time of its creation. In 2003, the cemetery was declared a cultural monument to the Czech Republic.

The cemetery was established in the context of World War I, when the Czechoslovak Republic tried to modernise and develop the infrastructure. The division of Těšín led to the authorisation of an interest-free loan in 1922, which the city used to build various public facilities, including a cemetery. Architect Eduard David proposed a project that was implemented between 1920 and 1928. The cemetery was opened in October 1925 and originally divided into three parts for evangelics, Catholics and the Jewish community.

An architectural cemetery is characterized by historism with empirical elements. The 1928 cemetery chapel is an example of these styles, with baroque and empirical details. The building has a central ground plan, to which are attached lower buildings of sacristy, priestry and portal. The chapel is divided by a cordon crown ledge with three thermal windows in the facade and a high valb roof with a sandbox. The interior of the chapel has a high cross vault, which was restored until 2022. The chapel serves as a funeral home.

The Jewish funeral home in the cemetery was founded in 1924 and built in the following year. During World War II, the cemetery was badly damaged by the Nazis, but the funerals took place until 1986. After adaptation in 2010, the choir of the Lutheran Evangelical Church purchased a house from the city.

The administrative building of the cemetery is a two-storey brick building with a wall roof, connected by an open corridor with a cemetery chapel. The fence of the cemetery includes stone suspects and embossed columns with stones and metal fillings, parts of which were reconstructed in 2020.

In this cemetery lie many personalities such as Ladislav Báča, Bedřich Havlíček, Henryk Jasiczek, Josef Koždoň, Ida Münzbergová and Emil Škrabiš. Each contributed to the cultural and historical significance of this place.

Today, Centrální hřbitov v Českém Těšíně is not only a monument to architecture, but also a witness to the rich history of local communities. Its renewal and maintenance ensure that future generations can appreciate its importance. Visiting this cemetery offers an opportunity to explore not only architectural beauty, but also the deep historical roots of the city Český Těšín.
