The Czechoslovak Army 24, also known as the Groom Command or Fortress House, is a baroque Classicist building from the 18th century located in Hradec Kralove on the street of the Czechoslovak Army No. 219. This monument was built as part of the fortress Hradec Králové and is remarkable by its history, architecture and cultural significance.

The building was built between 1787 and 1797 according to the project of Lieutenant Colonel Kleindorff. It was created at a time when European states, including the Habsburg monarchy, were modernising their strength systems to ensure border defence and strategic sites. It was originally used as accommodation for commanders of the castle crew. After the lifting of the fort, the building was used as the headquarters of the general who led the local military unit until the end of World War II.

The architecture of the groom's headquarters is characteristic of the Baroque Classicist style. The building is situated on a slope: towards the street is one storey, while towards the garden is only ground floor. The facade is plastered and painted in shades of yellow and white with flat shambles of window windows. The ground floor areas are sealed with flat vaults with lunettes, while the first floor has flat ceilings.

After the war, the building served as a workplace of the State Institute for Reconstruction of Monumental Cities and Objects (SÚRPMO). In 1958, the fortress house was officially registered as a protected cultural monument. This status highlights its historical and architectural value.

Today there is a restaurant on the ground floor which allows visitors not only to explore its rich history, but also to enjoy local culinary specialities. The fortress house is not only a monument with an important historical background, but also a living place that attracts visitors with its atmosphere and offer.

Visiting the Castle House of the Czechoslovak Army 24 is a valuable opportunity for those interested in history and architecture. This monument brings with it parts of Hradec Králové's past and offers a view of life and events at a time when the fortress was a key defensive point. It is a place that resembles the changes that the city has undergone, while serving as a testament to the artistic taste and technical abilities of the past. Visiting this building is therefore not only a way into history, but also an opportunity to explore the wealth of the cultural heritage of Hradec Králové.

Welcome to Czechoslovak armies number 24, a beautiful Baroque classical fortress house, which stands in the heart of Hradec Kralove. You are standing in front of an elegant 18th century building whose history is closely linked to the military history of the city. The fortress house boasts solid walls and simple but distinctive facades, which you are already interested in.

Let's dive into his history. This building was built between 1787 and 1797 according to the project of Lieutenant Colonel Kleindorff, who was responsible for creating suitable accommodation for the commander of the castle crew. It was created as part of the fortress Hradec Králové and served as an important military centre. After the cancellation of the fortress, the building was used for various administrative purposes, including the headquarters of the general of the local crew and later as the workplace of the State Institute for Reconstruction of Monuments and Objects. Since 1958, it has been officially registered as a protected cultural monument.

Take a look up at the facade where you will notice the careful arrangement of window rows and elegant lines, which are the hallmarks of baroque classical architecture. The interior of the building can be used today for various purposes, but it still maintains its original atmosphere and spirit of the past.

The key moment in the history of this place was its position as a centre of military power. Although specific personalities associated with this building are not widely known, their presence feels in every stone and ceiling.

The interesting thing is that even after the lifting of the fort, the building was able to find new meaning and purpose. It is an example of flexibility and adaptability that characterized many historical structures.

We will now invite you to further explore Hradec Králové, whose rich history is fuller than you could possibly imagine. If you have further questions or want to know more about other sights, we will be happy to help you. With God and don't let the history of this beautiful city take hold!

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit this historic building is in the morning or late afternoon, when the sun best highlights the baroque classical details of the facade.

The building is well accessible both by its own vehicles and through public transport. Please check the exact timetable and connection in the search engine.

For a comfortable tour we recommend to bring drinking water and shoes suitable for walking around the historical surroundings.

For the best photos we recommend you find a position in the street of the Czechoslovak Army, where you can capture the overall appearance of the building in good light.

For families with children, the architecture itself and the stories associated with the military use of this place are interesting.
