Dobrošov Artillery fortress

The Dobrošov Artillery Fortress, located in the village of Dobrošov in the district of Náchod, Královéhradecký kraj, is an important historical monument. Built as part of the Czechoslovak fortification in the 1930s, it served as a defensive fortress on the northern border of Czechoslovakia. Despite its incomplete state, it works today as a museum of Czechoslovak fortifications and provides valuable information on historical events of that time.

The emergence of the fort was inspired by the political situation in Europe in the late 1930s, especially with the advent of fascism and the annexation of Czechoslovakia by Germany after the election of Adolf Hitler Chancellor. The fortress was part of the strategy of defence against potential attacks on the northern border of Czechoslovakia and was to be one of the fourteen harbours built west of Ostrava. The construction began in 1937 under the guidance of the engineer of the staff captain of the groom Ing. František Zavadil and the construction of the head of Vlastimil Zeithamml, who ran a team of 30 officials and 960 workers.

The planned architecture of the fort included a complex with two infantry cabins, two artillery cabins, one artillery revolving tower and a mortar rotary tower. The construction was not completed due to political events, namely the Munich Agreement in 1938. At that time, only three objects and part of underground structures were built.

During the Nazi occupation, the fort served as a target for testing new German missiles, which led to damage to the infantry cabin N-D-S 72. After World War II, the fortress was transferred to the museum in 1968 and is now managed by the Museum of Náchodska.

Today's situation shows traces of overflowing construction sites, especially N-D-S 76 and N-D-S 74. The underground is partially accessible, but most of its space is clogged. The tours are offered on several programs that allow visitors to explore the historical context and architecture of the fortress.

The Dobrošov Artillery Fortress is not only a monument to defense from the past, but also a place where history and the present meet. Its presence in the Náchod district offers a unique view of Czechoslovakia's strategic plans during the tense years of the 1930s.
