Dům čp. 12 House
Dům čp. 12 is a late empirical brick building at the Square in Štramberk in Nová Jicin district. She was the first town hall in the past. The building is registered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic and forms part of the town monument reservation.
Originally it was a grafted house that was rebuilt in the first period of the 19th century. This change in design is consistent with the late Empire style.
The building stands on a low suspicion that equalizes the terrain inequality due to the slope. The entrance facade is turned into a square. It consists of a three-axis layout with a straight atic floor. Horizontal breakdown is provided by the cordon and continuous parapet ledge, while the whole aetika is finished with the main ledge. On the ground floor there is a rectangular entrance in the middle axis, windows of the same shape are located on its sides. Three blind rectangular windows with blinds are mounted on the parapet ledge. The roof is saddle and covered with metal.
The history of ownership dates back to 1721, when the owner of the township Michal Kelnar became the owner. His family owned the property until 1870. Since the first decade of the 20th century, married Josef and Karolín Baar, the parents of the writer Zdeněk Bár, lived here. In 1960, Alois Hanzelka bought the building.
In addition to the city hall, the house is connected to Zdeněk Bára's personality. In a later period, it was converted into a two-generation object.
Currently, the construction is used for housing and business; a confectionery shop is set up here after 1990. The monument represents an important architectural element of the Štramberg Square. Her visit allows you to see the administrative and social history of the city.

Welcome to Štramberk, where history intersects with the present in every corner. Right now, you're standing in front of a house with number 12, which quietly tells the story of the city's transformation. If you look at it, you'll see a walled-up structure that, with its face, sees the calm of the square and its stability resembles a long time ago. It is a building that has absorbed many decades of history, and today it is an important part of the urban conservation. It is listed in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic, which means that its preservation is considered essential for our common memory. Let us now stop at how the house got to this form. The history of this place takes us deep into the eighteenth century. Already in the year seven hundred twenty one was the owner of the house Michal Kelnar, which he detected as a beanbag township. At the time, however, the building looked completely different. Imagine at this point the original grafted house, typical of older buildings in this area. The grafted walls of wooden beams gave the house a completely different character, much more modest and rustic than you see today. The change came later, between the year one thousand eight hundred and one thousand eight hundred thirty-three. It was at this time that a major reconstruction took place. The original wooden structure gave way to the walled ścianami and the house gained its present appearance in the spirit of the late Empire. This style has brought purity, balance and some nobility to architecture. Now, if you look at the front of the house, feel this harmony, which is typical of this direction. Although the house has changed slightly over the years, it still carries the spirit of the time when the city began to modernise and develop. Now pay attention to the role this house played in the community. It may surprise you that this building wasn't always just a house. In the past there was the heart of the city administration because the house No. 12 served as the first town hall in Štramberk. So imagine that this is where important things were decided before, where the city's leaders met and the order that made it work. It is fascinating to think of how many important discussions and decisions took place in these walls before the building returned to other uses. The Kelnar family, who owned the house for so long, said goodbye to the real estate in a thousand eight hundred and seventy. After that, the house was in the hands of other owners, which brings us to one of the most interesting personalities connected to this place. At the beginning of the twentieth century, between a thousand and a thousand and nine hundred and ten, married Joseph and Caroline Baar moved into the house. Why is it important? Because this is where the parents of the famous writer Zdeněk Bár lived. It is very likely that in this very environment, in the atmosphere of this house on the square, the world began to emerge, which later Zdeněk Báro described in his books. When you look at the windows and doors of the house, try to imagine a young writer spending his childhood here watching life on the streets of Štramberk. Now let's think about how the house evolved in the newer period. In the year one thousand nine hundred sixty, the object was purchased by Alois Hanzelka. The house continued to live, but with the advent of the new century a new dimension was added to it. After a year of a thousand and nine hundred and ninety, a candy store was set up in the building. It is a beautiful contrast that the place where the rigour of the town hall offices once ruled and where the talent of the writer has increased, today serves to delight visitors and residents who come here for sweet refreshments. The interesting thing that may elude you is the transformation from a wooden grafted house to a walled building. It is a symbol for the entire development of Štramberk, which gradually transformed from a small settlement into a major city with a rich culture. This house is like an open book where every layer of plaster and every change in arrangement tells of a different century. From the beaner to the councilman to the confectioner and writer. Now that you know the story of house number 12, I suggest you take a moment in silence to perceive the atmosphere of this place. Look at the facade details and try to connect all these pieces of history to one whole. It's a place where official seriousness meets family warmth and the sweet taste of the present. Thank you for your attention to this house. I hope you're interested in his story. Now I invite you to continue to explore other beautiful corners of Štramberk and discover the secrets that hide other historical buildings in the surroundings. I wish you a pleasant walk and many new experiences in this wonderful city. Goodbye.
Tips for visitors
The best time to visit is morning or late afternoon time when the sun hits the facade of the former town hall at a pleasant angle, highlighting the details of the late Empire style. The building is located directly on the square, so it is available by car and public transport; Check the current connection in the search engine.
We recommend that you wear shoes suitable for walking around the historic city centre. Since it is a residential building, the tour takes place only from the outside, which makes it possible to observe the architecture in peace without the need to enter.
For the best photos we recommend looking for angles that capture the whole width of the wall in the context of the square. The ideal light to capture the facade details is during the golden hour before sunset.
Families with children can use a visit to tell about what the first city administration looked like in this place. Since there are no other specific sights in the surroundings, we recommend a walk through the Štramberk centre itself.

Seasonal recommendations
In spring, the surroundings of the house are awakened to live colours and fresh greenery, which complement the appearance of historical walls. The walks are pleasant thanks to mild air, but we recommend shoes suitable for humid terrain. It is best to visit the place in the morning when the light is fine and nature is blooming around.
In the summer months it dominates areas of strong sun and hot air, creating a rich contrast between the shadow of buildings and the bright sky. Due to the large number of visitors, it is advisable to leave early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the largest clusters of people. Remember light clothes and sun protection.
Autumn brings golden shades of leaves and fog to Štramberk, which provide a mysterious and nostalgic atmosphere to the facade of the house. It's the perfect time to take pictures with soft, warm light. We recommend you bring a lighter jacket or coat, because it can be colder in narrow alleys.
Zimą becomes a quiet and white environment that highlights the very shapes of the building. The atmosphere is calmer and in advent time the place is cozy. For an outdoor tour it is necessary to have warm shoes and layered clothes to make you cool not stop while admiring architecture.
