House No. 32, also known as Kaplanski House, is an important historical monument located on the Dekanská street of Prachatika. A single-storey linear object with Gothic roots and Renaissance reconstructions is part of the urban conservation and protected cultural monument since 1958. Its importance lies not only in building style, but also in rich history and architectural details.

The village of Prachatice built this building around 1527 as a residence for the chaplain. The original house probably burned down in 1501, which led to its restoration. He served not only as a chaplain, but also as a church man and other needy persons. In 1586 he resisted the attempt to empower St. Elizabeth's Brotherhood, which claimed incorrect ownership.

Architecturally, the house is remarkable with its facade decorated with rustic and ornamental sgraffiti decoration. The facade is dominated by a high bay glazed on two crackers, which ends with a tiered shield with a cimmer. Sgradito, probably renovated in 1904 based on the findings of the original decor, decorated the entire facade and includes the painting of the Last Supper of the Lord inspired by the parts of Albrecht Dürera.

The house has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. After the original Gothic construction, the Renaissance reconstruction took place in the 16th century, which included the addition of atics and sgraffiti decoration. Later it was modified baroque and classical. In 1904, a modern adaptation of the facade was carried out, which included reconstruction of sgraffiti decoration and stone lining of the openings.

The house was always owned by the administration of the village of Prachatice. Currently, the property of the Roman Catholic parish is Prachatice. It stands on a small parcel with an area of 37 square meters, between the deanery on the left and the house No. 33 on the right, with which it shares the graphic decoration.

Today House No. 32 is not only a monument to architectural interest, but also a witness to the rich history of the city of Prachatice. His facade and sgraffiti decoration attract the attention of experts and laymen. Visit this monument and appreciate its historical value and architectural details, which are indicative of the rich past of the town of Prachatika.

House No. 32 is an example of how history and art can be preserved in one object. Its sgraffiti decoration and architectural elements are important witnesses to the past that are worth exploring. Visit this monument and appreciate its historical value and beauty.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring: In the spring, the surroundings awaken and the light is soft, which makes the house look beautiful. Nature begins to green and the air is fresh. I recommend you take several layers of clothes because the morning cold can be surprising. The best time for observation is in the morning when light is constant and does not shine.

Summer: In summer days, the mood is alive and the sun hits the walls straight and clear. The colours of the building are the most distinctive in this period. It is advisable to take light and breathable clothes and not forget the protection from the sun. For the best impression I recommend a visit in the late afternoon when the light is softer and golden.

Autumn: Autumn brings peace to the city and the colors of leaves create a soothing mood around the monument. The morning fog often appears, which gives the place a mystery. It is good to have fixed shoes in case of wet surface and warmer jacket. The most suitable visit is in the afternoon, when the sun still lights up the walls.

Winter: In winter, the house is very quiet in a freezing environment, especially if everything is covered with snow. The days are short, and the light falls low, creating significant shadows. You must wear very warm clothes, including gloves and scarves. It's best to come around noon so you don't mind the lack of daylight.
