Dům čp. 72 (Kadaň) House
House No. 72, known as the Golden Crown, in Kadana is originally a Gothic townhouse from the turn of the 13th and 14th century, located on the Peace Square. Its history dates back to the past, combining craft beer production with traditions associated with Emperor Ferdinand I. Habsburg.
The building is located on the corner of Božena Nemcová street leading to the former Minorite monastery of St. Michael. At the time of its creation, when trade and crafts prospered, urban communities developed and gradually weakened the feudal system.
Originally, the Gothic building underwent several reconstructions, especially after the fires. In the interior was preserved Renaissance painting of the 16th century imperial eagle. The present home sign, symbolizing earthly and divine sovereignty, was placed in 2002 and its author is Cadadian sculptor Herbert Kisza.
The first mention of the house as legal appears in the town books from 1574 when it was owned by Paul Florin z Lambsteinu. After his death in 1611 the house was inherited by the son of Kaspar and subsequently the granddaughter of Katharina and Rebecca. After the city fire in 1631, the owner changed; in 1634 is listed Georg Franz Klippel, and in 1654 the butcher Christoph Stirb, probably the husband of Katharina Florin. At the end of the 17th century the house was owned by the municipal elders Tobias Lihl, who sold it to Christian Meltzer in 1697. In 1771 the building was purchased by Johann Matthias Kintzl and subsequently owned by his widow Johanna Wagner until 1792. The house was then inherited by her children Theonest, Scholastika and Hermenegilde. In the 19th century, it was owned by the urban families Hudl, Horschitz and Griessel. From 1928 to 1939 it belonged to the husbands Albert and Anna Muserova and until 1945 Anton Knösh.
The house was repeatedly hit by fire, especially in 1750, when six townhouses and monasteries burned down, and in 1786. It served as a place for making beer and malt, and later there was a wine sunscreen and inn. According to legend, the name "Golden Crown" resembles an Kadaň religious peace from 1534. It is assumed that the diplomat Siegmund von Herberstein, who was visited by King Ferdinand I during the peace negotiations between Catholics and Lutherans, lived in the house at that time.
Today, the house is owned by the Holk family who renovated it. Although the name of the inn Korun moved to the neighboring house No. 73, the original object kept its name at the Golden Crown.
This monument is a valuable fragment of the medieval urbanisation of Kadana and recalls the importance of the city within the European policy of the 16th century. It is recommended to visit it while walking through the historical center of Old Town.
