Dusíkovo Divadlo in Čáslav is a significant cultural monument and theater institution recognized as a protected heritage site in the Czech Republic. Established by local citizens in 1867, it was named after J. L. Dusík, a native of Čáslav. They decided to establish a private consortium for building the theater, named after J. L. Dusík in honor of his contributions. The consortium committed to securing funds for construction and overseeing the project, with an agreement that the completed theater would become municipal property if all debts were settled and its cultural purpose maintained indefinitely. Funding came from various sources including performances by local amateurs, donations, loans, and community contributions of both money and materials.

Architecturally, Dusíkovo Divadlo was initially designed in a pseudogothic style by Josef Spudil. Construction began on land purchased on May 29, 1867, but the site proved unsuitable due to waterlogging. Despite this challenge, construction proceeded under the supervision of architect František Skřivánk and was completed in 1868. The theater featured modern amenities for its time, including a shooting gallery and bowling alley in the garden area. Its facade originally displayed a bust of J. L. Dusík crafted by sculptor Jindřich Čapek.

Throughout its history, Dusíkovo Divadlo has undergone several significant changes to enhance safety and functionality. In 1886, following fires at major European theaters, the building was radically renovated under the guidance of Ing. František Tetřev. These renovations included additional emergency exits, a fireproof roof over the stage area, and an installed water system for firefighting purposes. The theater also saw technological advancements with the introduction of acetylene lighting in 1900, which replaced gas lighting five years later.

The theater has been a venue for numerous cultural events since its opening on February 28, 1869. It hosted performances by renowned actors such as Sklenářová – Malá and Pospíšilová, and even inspired Ladislav Quis to write the play "Medvěd" specifically for it. In 1901, Dusíkovo Divadlo premiered its first opera, "Prodaná nevěsta."

However, the theater faced significant challenges due to fires. A fire in January 1911 was quickly extinguished, but a more devastating blaze occurred on New Year's Eve of 1922-23. This fire destroyed much of the interior and equipment, leaving only the four outer walls standing. The subsequent reconstruction involved replacing wooden structures with reinforced concrete and modernizing facilities to include wider galleries, additional boxes, balconies, and an updated rigging system.

Today, Dusíkovo Divadlo remains a cherished cultural landmark in Čáslav.
