The Evangelical rectory of the Upper Choir in Vsetín is a historical monument located at the Evangelical Church in Palacky Street. This building was built in 1844 and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 2001. Fara has a storey structure with walled shields and a saddle roof, which was reconstructed in 2002. It is the seat of the Parish Choir of the Czech Brotherhood Church Evangelical in Vsetín-Upper Choir.

The history of the rectory is closely linked to the development of evangelical corps in the area. Originally, the secret Evangelical Choir in Vsetín was a unified entity that split into Lower and Upper Choir in 1785. This division has brought new dynamics to the religious life of the local community. Since then, the Upper Choir has applied to the tradition of Swiss reformer Jan Kalvin. In the first years after the split, preachers from abroad took turns until in 1797 Jakub Lukl z Nosislavi started working at Brno. During his service he built a new church which was sanctified on 24 May 1827 and shared between the two choirs.

Architecturally, the rectory is characteristic of historism, which is reflected in its design with walled shields and a saddle roof. This style was typical of the period of the 19th century when religious buildings were developed in the process of modernization and cultural renewal. In 1844, when the rectory was built, there was an intense movement in Europe towards cultural and religious reforms, which also affected the architecture of new buildings.

The Upper Choir rectory in Vsetín has undergone several key events. The most significant of them was its division in 1785, which led to the creation of a separate Upper Corps. The second important event was the consecration of the new church in 1827, which represented a considerable milestone in the development of the local religious community. A reconstruction of the rectory took place in 2002, which ensured its preservation for future generations.

Today, the rectory of the Upper Choir in Vsetín is not only a cultural monument, but also an active centre of religious life. Its historical importance and architectural beauty make it an interesting destination for visitors interested in the history and culture of the region. Visiting this monument offers an opportunity to learn the rich history of the evangelical movement in Bohemia and to appreciate the artistic skill reflected in the construction. The Evangelical rectory of the Upper Choir in Vsetín is therefore not only an important cultural monument, but also a living witness to the history and religious tradition of the local community.

This monument represents an important contribution to understanding the spiritual and cultural development of the region. Its preservation and protection allow the following generations not only to appreciate its historical value, but also to inspire their stories and traditions. The Evangelical rectory of the Upper Choir in Vsetín is therefore an important destination for anyone who travels to Bohemia and seeks a deeper understanding of its rich history.

Welcome to Vsetín. Right now, at this moment, when you're standing here, there's a building in front of you that's not just an ordinary brick and stone house. You are standing right in front of the Upper Corps, a place that is deeply rooted in the history of this city and in the spiritual life of the entire area. Before we take a deeper look, just stop for a second. Feel exactly where you are. You're standing on a slope, and this position is very important for how the building affects anyone who sees it. The building is located east of the evangelical church and thanks to this location on the slope of the terrain it acts very naturally as if it were part of the very country on which it stands. Look at its overall form. It's a storey object that dominates this little piece of space with its height and its presence. Feel the weight, the stability this building emits. It's a feeling of something lasting, something that was here and will continue to be there. Do you feel the calm atmosphere around this building?

Let us now return together in time and try to understand why this place is so important. Imagine the year eighteen hundred forty-four. That's the year this building was built. It's a time when the world around it began to change, when people began to organize themselves differently than they used to. During this period, evangelical life began to develop in this area, which required its own place, its own centre. This rectory wasn't built just to accommodate someone. It was built as a seat, as a place for the choir, as a place where people could meet, talk and share their faith. It's a building that came from the needs of the community. When you look at her walls, you realize that every year that has passed since her inception has brought new stories, new people and new events that have taken place here. The history of this building is inseparably linked to the evolution of the Evangelical Corps in this region. It is a witness to the growth and transformation of a local community that sought its place in the world.

Now pay attention to the architecture in front of you. Although we don't know the names of the architects who designed this house, their vision is still clearly visible in every detail you can observe. Look up to the top of the building. Notice the walled shields. These are the distinctive, vertical elements that close the walls and give the whole construction its distinctive and solid appearance. These shields are not just decoration, they are part of a structure that gives the house its face and its importance. And then look at the roof. See that classic saddle roof? Its shape is traditional, it is a shape which in this area belongs to an architecture which is both practical and beautiful. This roof protects the building from all the elements that have visited it for decades. The whole building is storey, which means it has several levels that give it importance and grandeur. Feel the rhythm, the structure these floors and these details create. The whole object seems very balanced, as if it was in perfect harmony with its surroundings.

Within the history of this place and its spiritual significance, the name Jakub Lukl z Nosislavi appears in people's memory and historical records. Although his name may seem like an echo of the old days, he is a figure that is firmly linked to the roots of this place. History isn't just about buildings, it's about people's history. Characters like Jakub Lukl z Nosislavi remind us that this place was shaped by human effort, human faith and human life. When you stand before this parish, you stand before the result of the work and efforts of many people who were before you and who tried to build something lasting.

You may be interested in one very important thing that makes this building a real treasure. This rectory is not just an ordinary historical object. It is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Since the year two thousand and one, this building has been protected by the state, which means that its value is recognised as part of our common heritage. In order for this monument to continue to serve and for its beauty to not lose its shine, it underwent two thousand and two important reconstruction in the year. Thanks to this reconstruction, the building is in good condition today and can perform its role as the headquarters of the Czech-Brotherhood Church of the Evangelical Church in Vsetín-Upper Choir. It is a beautiful example of how we can combine the past with the present - how we can repair the old buildings so that they remain faithful to their history, but at the same time they were ready for future generations. It is the responsibility we bear today to preserve this heritage.

Now that you've been through the basic information about this place, I suggest you continue your research. Perhaps you will move towards the Evangelical Church, which is close by, or you will just walk around and perceive the atmosphere of this place. Every corner of Vsetína has a story, but this rectory is one of the most significant and important. Thank you for stopping by, for taking the time and for being interested in the history of this place. We wish you a beautiful and inspiring rest of your journey.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit this historic building from 1844 is in the morning or late afternoon. In these times, the sun best illuminates the walls and the saddle roof, creating beautiful conditions for the observation of architecture on the slope.

You can use your own car for transport to the place or use public transport. Please check with the search engine to be sure of your arrival time.

We recommend that you take drinking water and especially comfortable shoes. Since the rectory is located on a slope east of the church, the terrain may be a little difficult to walk.

If you are interested in photography, the best places for pictures are those that capture the entire height of the storey object and its characteristic roof. The best light is in times when the sun isn't too bright.

It is advisable for families with children to walk around at a quiet pace. No other specific places to visit are listed in the area.

Themed route

The rectory of the upper evangelical congregation in Vsetín Type: Cultural monument, historical building Why it is worth a visit: This building is a key proof of the existence of the evangelical community in Vsetín and offers a view of the architectural and social history of the city. Its inner spaces and the history of the choir attract lovers of local history and architecture.

Because in the given base, the line "Circuit" is empty, no further stops can be proposed outside the immediate vicinity of the main destination. Therefore, in accordance with the rules, we are proposing a route which focuses solely on the monument itself and its immediate surroundings without supplementing the fictional or unmentioned sites.

Tanks and exterior farms Type: Architectural detail, outdoor space Why is worth a visit: A tour of the facade and surrounding area allows you to appreciate the building style and preserve the historical character of the building. Here you can see details that tell about the original purpose and reconstructions of the object.

Internal premises and exposures Type: Historical exposition, interior tour Why is it worth a visit: If the premises are accessible, visitors can see the interior, where there are often traces of original equipment or documents concerning the activities of the congregation. This view inside complements the external impression and explains the function of the building further.

Straight walk around the building Type: Short walking route, orientation in space Why is it worth a visit: A short walk around the rectory helps to understand its location in the context of neighboring houses and streets. It allows itself to acquire space and find the best angles for photographing or observing architectural elements without the need to go to more remote parts of the city.

This compact route ensures that the visit is focused and respects the restriction. It focuses on a detailed examination of the main target, which is the most appropriate approach in the absence of other specified points in the vicinity. The visitor thus receives a comprehensive picture of this specific cultural monument without risk of loss in unknown terrain or visiting places not listed in the entry.

Seasonal recommendations

In spring the area of the rectory in Vsetín awakens into life. Light green leaves and flowering gardens give the place a fresh look and a feeling of a new beginning. I recommend visiting the memory in the morning when the light is fine and pleasant. Given the variable weather, it is best to choose layered clothes and bring an umbrella.

The summer season brings a radiant sun and rich green nature that surrounds historical construction. The atmosphere is full of energy and bright colors that highlight the details of architecture. To avoid the biggest groups of visitors in the season, it is advisable to come first thing in the morning. Remember light, breathable clothes and plenty of fluids.

Autumn in Vsetín is a period of golden colours and morning fog, which give the monument a mysterious and peaceful touch. The walks around are very relaxing and melancholy at this time. I recommend moisture resistant shoes and a visit in the afternoon when the sun paints the facade into warm tones.

In winter, the rectory is very cozy, especially if it is covered by a layer of snow. Short days and freezing air create a strong contrast to the inner calm of historical spaces. It is necessary to wear warm winter clothes and solid shoes. Pay attention to opening times that are shorter in this period and plan your arrival before dark.
