Hotel Prague, originally known as Hieke, is a late-classicist building from the middle of the 19th century in Boží Dar, Karlovy Vary. It is one of the first hotels on the Krušnohorska Magistrate and has been protected as a cultural monument since 2002.

The building was built at the time when Boží Dar became the center of tourism and winter sports in the second half of the 19th century. This change in the city's character has led to the construction of large hotels and to the expansion of existing buildings.

The object has a rectangular plan with newer ports. Originally, it was a one-storey building with a saddle roof and a large skyline, on which was later added a mansard floor. The current roof with smaller Valb skylights is covered with eternity and has its original hambalk roof. The surrounding wall consists of a quarry stone, a brick is used at the inputs. The front of the street has eight window axes with rectangular windows. The upper part of the facade is decorated with wooden formwork, an element of regional traditionalism, called Heimatstil. In the interior of the dining room there is a massive cassette ceiling.

In 1924 the hotel Hieke underwent a neo-romantic interior adjustment and added a second floor. In 1925, a social hall was set up in the building. The whole facade was covered with wood destruction at a certain time, but they removed it on later reconstruction. The development of the hotel and the promotion of tourism in the region contributed to the activities of the Hornokrůšnohorský association of winter sports and the Association for Foreign Tourism in God's Daro and the region of Klínovec, founded in 1930.

The hotel was privately owned, then bought by the municipality in 2005 for CZK 67 million. As a result of poor management and losses incurred, the building was re-sold after four years to the private owner. In 2009 it was the only hotel in the city with swimming pool and congress hall.

The building was declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture on 15 May 2002. It represents significant architectural evidence of the development of tourism in the highest situated city of the Czech Republic. Thanks to its history and style, the monument is a suitable destination for visitors interested in the history of the Erzgebirge Mountains.

Welcome to God's Dar, a place with a unique combination of history and a view that seems to be placed directly from the dream screen. You are standing in front of a building that was once the slula of Hieke, now known as Hotel Prague. This late-classicist building, dated half of the 19th century, is the highest hotel complex in the Czech Republic and is a witness to early tourism today at the Krusnohora City Hall.

Let's dive into his history. This hotel, one of the first in this area, was built at a time when traveling for holidays was beginning to become popular. The interesting thing is that he originally carried a different name and served as a passageway for those who wanted to rest in a beautiful mountain landscape. In 1924 the hotel underwent a neo-romantic interior adjustment, which gave it another layer of elegance and comfort. This reconstruction process also included the addition of the second floor, thus gaining the hotel in height and attractiveness.

Look up: the top of the facade is decorated with wooden formwork. This element is not just decorative; symbolizes regional traditionalism, which gives the building further depth and connection with local culture.

Now pay attention to the interior. Although I do not know a particular architect, one can imagine an artist who managed to capture the spirit of the time and embody it in building material. When you walk through rooms, you feel like you're in a time where history has come across modernity.

The fact is that Boží Dar in 2005 bought the hotel for CZK 67 million. This move was not only a financial investment, but also a commitment to maintaining and preserving a historic memory for future generations.

In 2002 Hotel Prague was declared a cultural monument. This recognition not only confirms its architectural importance, but also its historical value as one of the first hotels on the Krusnomountain Magistrate.

Now that you've seen this beautiful building, I can invite you to continue your examination of God's Dar. The city offers many other historical and natural gems that await discovery. And when you return to the present, make sure you remember this beautiful monument, which is witnessed by the rich history and tradition of this area.

Thank you for your visit. I hope this guide inspired you to discover and appreciate the beauty of Czech mountains.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit this place is when the city offers the greatest atmosphere, for example in winter or during summer walks. Due to high altitude, we recommend monitoring the current weather forecast.

Transportation to the place is possible by car and public transport.

Bring warm clothes and tight shoes. Since you are in the highest city in the country, the weather can be unpredictable and colder.

The most suitable moments around the sunrise or sunset are for shooting the building of the Hotel Prague, when the light will highlight the classicist shapes of the building. The building itself is very photogenic thanks to its architecture.

It is advisable for families with children to walk around the city and observe historical development. There are no other specific places to visit in the area.
