Hrad u Loubí Castle

Hrad u Loubí is located above the Loub Mine, east of the village Loubí near Holan in the district Česká Lípa. He's one of the most mysterious monuments, because no written sources have been preserved, and his original name is unknown. Scientific knowledge of it is based solely on remains preserved in the landscape and archaeological findings.

The remains of the castle were discovered in 1988 by the researcher Petr Randus when he verified the existence of a place called the Hollow Castle mentioned in the texts of 1886. The actual understanding of the castle chronology was brought only by fragments of ceramics that were collected during the surface survey in 1991. On their basis, the foundation of the castle can be dated to the second half of the 13th century; the castle ceased to exist at the beginning of the 14th century, with ceramic findings showing only a slight overlap between these periods.

The builders chose a sandstone island as a place for the castle, the end of which is separated by a moat carved directly into the rock. The castle was supposed to be one-piece, but there could be a prepayment before the moat - but its remains died due to agricultural activity on the prefix. The inner core of the castle has not preserved any visible remains of the buildings, and the presence of wooden structures is only documented by the findings of lubricating pieces. Unclear origin is a round deepening on the north side of the proverbs. Behind the moat is still visible a hint of the wall.

Today you can visit the castle as a landmark. The visitor will find here the terrain relics of the fortifications preserved in the landscape and can see the feeble traces of the ancient estate when viewed carefully. The castle is a testament to the extinct medieval settlement and reminds us how much of our history remains hidden underground, waiting for the discoverer.
