Hvězdárna Valašské Meziříčí is an important observatory in Moravia, located in the village Valašské Meziříčí. Its main purpose is to popularize astronomy and provide access to sky observation for the public. The complex consists of two buildings: a wooden building from 1929, which is a cultural monument, and a new stone observatory from 1955. This complex represents an important part of the history of astronomical observations in Moravia.

The observatory has its origin in the efforts of Antonín Ballner, who built a wooden observatory in 1929. This building was part of the tradition of private observation stations and was mainly used for monitoring the Sun. In 1955, a new stone observatory was created next to the original building, according to the architectural design of Zdeněk Plesnik, which enabled the expansion of possibilities for professional astronomy. The wooden building was reconstructed and reopened to the public in 2005.

Architecturally it consists of a wooden building with a dome diameter of three metres, oldest in Moravia. The new stone observatory has three dome and serves as a workplace for astronomical observations. The main building contains telescopes Zeiss 150 / 2250 mm, mainly used in public programs. There is a Schmidt-Cassegrain 355 / 3550 mm reflector in the eastern dome with a CCD camera G2 and Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain 280 / 2800 mm in the western dome.

The administration of the observatory after its opening was led by Josef Doleček, which has been opening a new building since 1964. In the period 1965- 1995 she worked as the centre of the Astronomy Graduate Studies at the local gymnasium. Since 2025, the observatory has also served as a cultural and creative centre.

Key events include the position of the original wood observatory Antonín Ballner in 1929, the opening of a new stone observatory according to the design of Zdeněk Plesnik in 1955 and the reconstruction and reopening of the wooden building for the public in 2005. The observatory is also involved in the expert monitoring of the Sun, observing the variable stars and measuring the moments of the covers of the stars.

Today, Hvězdárna Valašské Meziříčí is an active centre for the popularization of astronomy. He organizes lectures, seminars and collaborates with the Valachian Astronomical Society. There is a weather station operated by ČHMÚ Ostrava-Poruba, which measures the basic meteorological elements. The observatory offers a lecture hall for the public and exhibits models such as Iridium satellites or solar systems.

Hvězdárna Valašské Meziříčí is a place where history and modern astronomical technology have merged together. Its importance for popularizing astronomy and accessibility makes it an ideal target for any quitter who wants to learn more about celestial secrets. Visiting her is an opportunity to explore both the history of astronomy in Moravia and the current possibilities of observing the sky.

Welcome to the place where human curiosity touches infinity. You are standing in front of one of the most important places to explore the sky in this part of Moravia. Notice how history and science connect here, and how two different structures form one whole to reveal the secrets of the stars. Before your eyes, space has spread, which has been used for decades to enable people to understand the universe better. Can you feel the strange atmosphere? It's a place where time stops, and a view goes high above our heads.

Let us now look together at how everything began. Your attention should be directed towards the older part of the complex. See that wooden structure? It carries the spirit of 1929. That's when a man named Antonín Ballner built it. It wasn't just an ordinary building, it was a realization of great passion. Ballner wanted a place where people could meet and watch celestial bodies. This wooden building is now considered an important cultural monument. When you look at her, feel the history that is stored in her walls. The wood carries the warmth and tradition of the old days, when science was built mainly by personal commitment and love for knowledge. This building was the basis for everything you see here today.

But now pay attention to the second part, which is right next door. It looks very different, doesn't it? It's a stone observatory that was built much later in 1955. This change in material, from wood to stone, reflects the advancing time and growing needs of science. This new building was built according to the design of an architect named Zdeněk Plesník. While the wooden building resembles the beginnings and human dimension of this place, the stone observatory represents stability, strength and modern approach to the observations of the universe. This combination of two different materials and two different epoch creates a unique whole, which stands here in Valašské Meziříčí and fascinates visitors.

This whole space isn't just about buildings, it's about the people who put their hearts in it. In addition to the founder Antonín Ballner and architect Zdeněk Plesík, there is also the name of Josef Dolěček. These are the figures that helped this place maintain its meaning and direction. Thanks to their efforts and the efforts of many others, this observatory has become a place that belongs not only to scientists but to all of us. It's a place for anyone who ever looked up at night and asked what was going on.

Perhaps this idea will interest you: this observatory is not just a observation building, it is a bridge between earth and heaven. The main task of this place is to popularize astronomy. This means that his goal is not just the silent work of scientists, but, above all, to learn as much about the universe as possible. To make the secrets of stars and planets accessible to children, to students and to you, who are moving in this beautiful place right now. It's an attempt to bring that distant and incomprehensible human mind closer together.

Notice the interesting thing about how these two different times, 1929 and 1955, were able to connect so beautifully. One building is more fragile, wooden and historical, the other is solid, stone and functional. Yet they form one harmonious unit together, serving the same precious purpose. It's like old wisdom meets new power. This contrast is precisely what makes this memory so special throughout Moravia.

Now that you know the story of these buildings and the people who created them, I suggest you continue your search. Feel the atmosphere of this place, look at the details that have been created here, and let yourself be carried away by the sense of wonder from what is happening high above us. It may seem to you that, even if you stand firmly on the ground, your mind can fly from this place to the stars themselves. Thank you for visiting us, and we wish you a wonderful exploration of this important place. Enjoy every moment you spend under the heavens.
