Chateau Kačina, located in the village of Svatý Mikuláš near Kutná Hora in Central Bohemia, is one of the most important examples of Empire architecture in the Czech Republic. This monument boasts its history and architectural value, making it a unique cultural heritage. The chateau is part of the National Agricultural Museum and works as a museum of the Czech countryside with a rich collection of national agricultural heritage.

The Kačina Chateau was built in a vast area of the park designed in 1789 by Viennese botanist Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin. Its architecture is characterized by classical portics and large spaces designed for both representative and residential purposes. The construction took place in 1802-1822 according to the gradually modified plans of the Dresden architect Ch. F. Schuricht, realized by Prague architect Jiří Fischer and later Johann Philip Joendle and Anton Arch.

The original owner of the chateau was the highest purgrave Kingdom of the Czech Count Jan Rudolf Chotek, who built the Novodvor mansion as a successor to the older chateau in the village. After the death of Emerich Chotk in 1911, he transferred the property to the heirs of the Thun-Hohenstein family, namely Emerich's nephew Quid-Thun-Hohenstein. In the days of the Protectorate, the chateau was sold to the Nazi youth organization Hitler Youth and nationalized after the war. Since 1950 it has been used by the National Agricultural Museum.

The Kačina Chateau offers a number of attractions, such as the Chotka family library with over 40,000 volumes from the period 16th to 19th century, the chateau theatre and the pharmacy. A. Schrott and Václav Prachner participated in sculptures. The chateau is also known as a location for several films and fairy tales.

Today the Kačina Chateau is open to the public and offers various exhibitions that illuminate the history of the Czech countryside. The most popular are Chotková and their manor Nové dvory, library and theatre, pharmacy, gallery, economic background of the chateau and outdoor exposition. The chateau is not only an architectural pearl, but also an important cultural centre that brings visitors a view of the past of the Czech countryside.

The Kačina Chateau is not only an important historical monument, but also a living museum offering rich resources for the knowledge of Czech culture and history. His visit is undoubtedly worthy of experience for anyone interested in the history and architecture of the Czech Republic.
