The stone bridge in Verměřovice is an empirical road arch bridge across the River Silent Eagle, built between 1894 and 1895. This historic building is located on road III / 3141 and represents an important technical element on the trade path between Bohemia and Moravia.

The bridge was built between 1894 and 1895 on the road connecting Lanškroun and Letohrad. This route was used as an important trade path of Šilper Snowník, which led from Bohemia to Moravia. Before the construction of this stone building, the ford and later the wooden bridge were used at this place.

The building solution of the bridge includes three fields with low segment vaults, which are supplemented by a drop-off gem in the forehead. The whole building is built from carefully worked blocks of glauconite sandstone, which comes from the quarry in Monasterci nad Orlicí. The two pillars located in the riverbed have a half-circular forehead, while the bridge supports have a polygonal plan. The massive railing consists of two rows of blocks and is oblique to the outer supports. The bridge length is 40.7 meters. The original width of 5.2 meters was increased to 8 meters thanks to the added footbridge. The architecture of the object is based on the Empire style, which is characterized by symmetry and harmony.

In 1964 the bridge was entered in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. In 1997 and 2000, the pillars were disrupted as a result of flood events. In 2007, extensive reconstruction was carried out by Chládek & Tintěra from Pardubice. During these works, the bridge was completely dismantled, with approximately 400 individual blocks numbered with lime and stored for later re-assembly. After the foundation was repaired, the object was reassembled, the vault was filled with concrete and then a reinforced concrete supporting plate. The car is made of asphalt.

Today the bridge is fully functional and thanks to the attached bridge is also accessible to pedestrians. This monument represents an important technical and historical element in the region. It is a suitable destination for visitors interested in the history of transport infrastructure and architecture.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring brings nature to the surroundings of the stone bridge in Verměřovice. The trees around the river are covered with fresh greenery and flowering leaves, creating a pleasant contrast with a dark stone of construction. The light is soft and scattered at this time, ideal for shooting without sharp shadows. The atmosphere is calm and full of new year's expectations. It is advisable to wear fixed shoes for a visit, as the roads around the watercourses can be muddy or slippery after winter months. Clothes should be laminated as spring weather is variable and temperatures can change rapidly. The best time for inspection is in the morning, when the air is fresh and the temperature is still low on physical load.

Summer offers the longest days and brightest lighting that reveals every detailed hole and texture of stone. Nature is in full bloom, the surrounding meadows are green and the river flows with full power. The atmosphere is alive, but it may be more noisy due to summer activity in the region. The main summer season brings higher attendance, which is why it is good to schedule a tour for early morning or late afternoon to avoid the biggest sun and possible crowds. Clothes should be light and breathable, suitable for higher temperatures. Remember enough drinking mode and sun protection such as a hat or sunglasses. The afternoon heat can be challenging, therefore it is calmer to walk in the morning or evening.

Autumn brings a rich variety of colors to the region when leaves on the trees around the bridge turn color into gold, orange and red. The light is lower and warmer, creating dramatic and romantic shadows on the stone structure. The atmosphere is colder and more thoughtful, ideal for a peaceful walk and photography. Nature around the river is slowly preparing for winter sleep. A warmer layer, such as a sweater or a light jacket, is required for clothing because morning and evening temperatures are falling. The footwear should be dry and comfortable as wet leaves on the ground can be slippery. The best time to visit is late afternoon when the sun shines low and highlights the texture of stone and colorful surroundings.

Winter brings peace and quiet to Verměřovice, often with a white blanket of snow that contrasts with the dark stone of the bridge. The light is short and pale, creating a specific, almost mystical atmosphere. Nature is calm, the trees are bare and the river flows more slowly under ice or snow. A warm winter jacket, gloves, hat and solid shoes with a good heel are necessary for the clothes to avoid slipping on ice surfaces. The visit during this period is less disturbing, which allows you to focus on the details of the monument and the silence of the surroundings. The best time is the late morning when the sun reaches its highest point and the temperature is relatively highest during the day.
