The Chapel of the Heart of Jesus is located in the village Blešno and belongs to the parish of Trebechovice under Oreb. This sacral building dates back to 1913, when awareness of the dignity of places for piety was expanded in Czech villages. Since 31 December 2015 it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic, which shows its historical and architectural contribution to the identity of the village.

The history of the chapel is associated with the long-term care of the local community for its preservation. A marked break came in 2002 when the interior of the chapel underwent a major renovation. Subsequently, it was re-consecrated by the Archbishop Karel Fathers. This ceremony was not only a renewal of the physical structure, but also a confirmation of its religious and social value for the Flešna community.

From an architectural point of view, the chapel is an example of the New Romanesque style, which is distinguished by its characteristic elements following the older sacral tradition. The construction demonstrates how even in small villages the local population tried to create space with some architectural dignity. The chapel in the New Romanesque style is a typical addition to the village development - a building that is architecturally different from ordinary houses, and it remains consistent with the scale and character of the village landscape.

Nowadays, there are no regular services in the chapel, which places it in the category of sights rather than an active spiritual centre. Yet it remains an important element of the cultural heritage of Blešna and speaks of the way in which the villagers used to relate value to their spiritual life. For a visitor interested in Czech sacral architecture and rural culture of the early 20th century, the chapel represents a valuable and authentic witness of past generations.

Welcome to the picturesque village of Blešno, located in the Králové Hradec Region. Right now you're standing right in front of the Chapel of the Heart of Jesus and you have headphones on, so let's enjoy the atmosphere of this remarkable place together. Look around you. In front of you is a small, but architecturally interesting sacral structure, which forms a natural heart and an invisible addition to the entire village buildings. Take a moment to absorb her general appearance in peace and let the calm radiate from this space.

Now let's move back in time to the past and look at how this building came into being. The year is thirteenth, nineteen hundred thirteen, and there was a strong awareness of the immense importance of places reserved for quiet contemplation and religious activities in the Czech villages. It was in this atmosphere that kaple Srdce Ježíšova was founded. The people in Flea wanted their own stand of faith and community meeting, so they built this new Romanesque prayer that was supposed to serve the entire rural community. Although the names of the creators and builders remained forgotten and were not preserved in the historical sources, the work they left behind speaks for itself and bears the legacy of the then inhabitants.

Now take a new direction of attention and devote it to the exterior of the building itself. You are facing a demonstration of the New Romanesque style, which manifests itself in clean lines and overall architectural sound. Look carefully at the facade of the chapel, notice the mass of the structure and the way in which this sacral dominance naturally fits into the surrounding landscape of the Royal Hradec region. Although there were no records of particular architects, craftsmanship and sense of proportion are obvious at first sight. The Chapel of the Heart of Jesus represents a typical and very valuable sacral complement to the village building, which enriches the whole area with its modest but dignified presence.

If we think about the stories associated with this place, we will find that the chapel has been a silent witness to human fate, joy and concern to the people of Blešna for decades. It was a place where people met to pray, where they found comfort in difficult times and shared the joyful moments of their lives. Although we will not find the names of specific historical personalities that would be closely linked to the chapel in the archives, the greatest story of this place is the story of the community itself. It is a story of cohesion, faith and endurance that has managed to keep this memory alive across generations.

Let us now reveal an interesting feature that makes this building particularly special. The chapel didn't stay in time, but it lives on with new generations. In the year two thousand and two the interior of the chapel underwent an extremely thorough and extensive renovation. It was an event of great importance for the whole Blešno, because there was a new consecration of the chapel, which was personally hosted by the then royal archbishop Karel Otčenášek. With this sanctification, the chapel was given a new spiritual impulse, so its story could continue to the twenty-first century. Another huge milestone in the modern history of this place is the date of the last December of the year 15, the year twenty-fifteen. It was at that time that the chapel was officially included in the list of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic, which recognised its undisputed architectural and historical value for future generations.

To conclude our joint stop, I want to invite you to further explore. Take a moment of silence, go around the chapel, feel its solid structure and let history breathe upon you, which is literally tangible here. Thank you for listening, I hope this recording has been an enrichment for you, I wish you a beautiful rest of the day and a happy journey to other discoveries in the Royal Hradec Region.

Seasonal recommendations

The spring season in Flea brings awakening nature, when the surrounding trees and grass gain a fresh green color. The sun rays penetrate through the still slightly squeaky crowns at the beginning of the day and create a fine shadow game on the facade kaple Srdce Ježíšova, ideal for morning photography. In this period there is a calm atmosphere, as the main tourist burden is yet to come. The practical advice for a spring visit is to wear fixed shoes because the field roads in the surrounding area can be drenched on the tidal and spring rains, and take a windbreaker to protect from the variable wind.

Summer months offer a completely different atmosphere characterized by lush vegetation in full bloom and long, sunny days. The lighting of the monument is the most striking in the late afternoon, when the setting sun waters the whole building with a warm golden light. Due to the main tourist season I recommend arriving either early in the morning or in the evening to avoid midday heat and potential visitors. As practical equipment, remember to wear your headgear, enough drinking water and insect repellent, which is more active in the surrounding green.

The autumn landscape of the Králové Hradec Region supplies the chapel with melancholic and very photogenic character thanks to leaves coloured in shades of yellow, orange and brown. The morning mist often covers the landscape and lend a place a quiet, contemplative atmosphere, which slowly disperses in the morning under the strain of a weak sun. As the weather changes rapidly and temperatures fall, it is necessary to choose layered clothes, waterproof jacket and warmer shoes. The best time to visit is in the morning when the fog rises and shows the memory in full glory.

The winter season turns the surroundings of the chapel into a quiet landscape, sometimes covered by a snow blanket, which increases the cleanliness and engineering of the sacral structure. The low sun creates sharp shadows and soon becomes dark, which means the overall atmosphere is very chaotic and lonely. In winter time it is necessary to count on shorter time and cold weather, therefore it is the best time for a tour of the noon when it is most warm outside. Unconditionally use warm winter clothes, hats, gloves and non-slip shoes for possible ice.
