kaple svaté Anny (Prostějov) Chapel

St Anne's Chapel stands in Prostějov- Mockingese as a testament to the faith and endurance of the local community. It is a baroque sacral building that directly links its creation to the practical needs of the Drozdovic peasants in the mid-18th century.

The chapel was built between 1743 and 1745 in the place where a small pestilence cemetery used to lie. Its creation had a clear purpose: local families did not have to commute to remote Mostkovice for every service. Instead, the priest from Mostkovice became a visitor to Drozdovic to serve mass here. It was a practical and sensible solution, which corresponded to the conditions of the 18th century rural life.

However, the chapel waited for the first serious crisis about 40 years after its status. The base of the imperial decree was declared unnecessary and was to be demolished. In order to prevent the loss of their prayer house, the citizens of Drozdovice and the chapel bought for 180 gold. By doing so, they assured themselves that it would serve their religious needs. In 1864, a famous mass was served in the chapel, which documents its permanent role in the life of the village.

Another danger was faced by the chapel in the 1950s, when the construction of a new settlement threatened its existence. This time it was the Habitantes Drozdovic who refaced her defenses and prevented the demolition. It has therefore remained for generations to come.

The architectural jewel of the chapel is its interior furnishings. It contains a valuable wooden altar of Baroque style oriented ad orient, decorated with carved sunflowers and the picture of St. Anne. This altar shows the quality of the art that has been done here.

Today, the chapel is managed by the Roman Catholic parish of the Ascension of the Holy Cross. It is not only a memory of centuries past - it is a living place of prayer. At the chapel, the Rosary Communities meet regularly and services are held here. The chapel thus continues to fulfil its original purpose and serves believers who seek peace, spiritual support and community.

For the visitor, the chapel is an interesting example of the Baroque sacral architecture of the countryside and a testament to the history of Prostějova-Drozdovice. Her story shows how the local community has decided twice on the will and means to face the threat of demolition. Visiting her means entering a place that has long lived its own spiritual life.
