kaple svaté Kateřiny (Nynice) Chapel

The chapel of St. Catherine in Nynice, located on the village village in the district of Plzeň-sever, is a Baroque monument with a rich history and architectural miracle. Built between 1696-1701 by the monastery of Plash, it was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1958. Its location on an artificially designed hill and characteristic Baroque architecture makes it a unique historical object worth exploring.

The origin of the chapel is closely linked to the monastery in the town of Pláska. In 1696, its construction began under the leadership of Abbot Ondřej Trojer, who had ambitious plans for the development of assets. The construction process lasted until 1701 when the chapel was completed for his successor Evžen Tyttle. The head of construction was Matěj Kondel, which probably carried out the project of French architect Jan Baptiste Mathey. His influence is reflected in the style of the chapel.

The chapel is an architect of the Baroque central building with an isosceles cross plan. The facade is characterized by a three-piece facade, divided by Tuscan pilasters and a rectangular shield with volute wings. Above the crossing of the shoulders is placed the sanctus tower which once hosted the bell from 1680. The interior is divided by concave Tuscan Pilgrims and nobodies, which contributes to a harmonious space encapsulated by flat and high-value ceiling passports.

The chapel has been under the management of various personalities over the years. After its completion, the monastery administration took care of it, which ensured its maintenance and preservation. In 1897 the original bell of 1680 broke and was replaced by a new bell. This incident highlights the importance of the chapel as a cultural and historical object. The facade, roof coverings and other structural elements were repaired in the years 2000-2001, which contributed to the preservation of its original form.

St. Catherine's Chapel is full of interesting things. Above the entrance there is a commemorative plate with a Latin chronogram documenting the history and merit of the monastery abbey Ondřej Trojer and Evžena Tyttle. On the right side of the entrance there is a modern commemorative plate that reminds of other important events associated with the chapel.

Today the chapel stands as an important historical object open to the public. Its rich architecture and history make it an attractive destination for tourists and locals. The chapel represents an important part of the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic and offers a view of the Baroque period and its influence on Czech architecture. Her visit is also an opportunity to recognise the historical values that this chapel represents.
