Konecchlumí Granary
Konecchlumí is a historic fortress converted into a granary, located in a village of the same name in the district of Jičín in the Králové Hradec region. This building served from the 14th to the sixteenth century as a seat of a smaller nobility and is today protected as a cultural monument.
The exact date of the foundation of the fortress was left few, but the preserved high medieval wall dates from the 14th to 15th century. In the early 14th century, Léva z Konecchlumí was the owner of the village, which was recorded in 1318 together with other earths such as Načerat, Pakoslav and Heřman from Konecchlumí. In 1355 they exercised patronage over the church of St. Peter and Paul Jan z Verdeka a ze Žlunic, Jošt and widow Marta. After John's death between 1376 and 1378, the village was held by the widow Kuna with his son Nicholas.
In the following years the estate was owned by Petr Šilhér of Konecchlumí and Hynek, Štěch of Konecchlumí and the brothers Aleš and Jan Vlk of Konecchlumí. The first written mention of the fort itself dates back to 1511, when Jindřich z Konecchlumí sold the fort with a courtyard, village, the right to the church and meadows on Chomuck Jan Karvík from Lesonic for 500 kopes of grosches. After John's death, his sons Aleš and Zikmund inherited the estate, and after their feud he acquired the entire village of Zikmund. He sold it to Martha from Kokovic in 1537. Between 1543 and 1545, the Konecchlumí sons of Marta z Kokovic, Jindřich and Jiří Vojický of Nové Vsi stopped at John the Elder of Hodějov. In 1560, Barbora of the Colomites sold the whole farm for 1200 kicks of grosses. The last mention of the fort serving as a headquarters dates back to 1586, when it was already used only for economic purposes.
The building has undergone successive reconstruction over the centuries. At the time of the early Baroque, the residential building was converted into a granary and later there was a classicist treatment. The current object represents a granary with a rectangular plan and a low saddle roof covered with eternity. On the south side of the building there was a steep portal and the walls are divided by recessed granary windows with a rail. The whole building is surrounded by modern ports with counter roofs.
In recent changes, ceilings were removed from the granary in around 2010 and other buildings in the yard were demolished in 2013. This monument represents an interesting example of the transformation of a noble residence into an economic building. It is a suitable stop for people interested in medieval architecture and the history of local estates.

Welcome to Konecchlumí. You're standing in front of a building that carries the incredible weight of centuries and the stories of many generations that once lived here, ruled or worked here. At first glance, you may think it's a simple, rectangular object, but only if you stop and let your eyes and mind examine its walls, you realize that you don't see only a stone structure, but a vivid record of the transformation of human life and social order. Feel this atmosphere of calm that is here, and imagine how this space has changed over the entire six and a half years.
Let's go deeper into the past together to understand where this story really started. To understand the nature of this place, we must return to 1318. At that time, there was not yet this current building in the form you see now, but the place was already significant. The first mention about this place tells us about Mr Levi from Konecchlumí, who was the owner of the village. At that time, there was a medieval fortress, a strong mansion that served as a safe home for the nobility. This fortress was not only home, it was a symbol of power and stability in the surrounding countryside. But over time, the fate of the place began to change. In 1511, a reference to the sale of the fortress appeared for the first time in the documents, suggesting that the era of old families and their impenetrable castles began to give way to new times.
Now pay attention to the architecture of the object in front of you. If you look at its overall form, you will see a clear rectangular plan that gives the building a sense of stability and order. It's fascinating to see how different epochs connect in this space. This building has never been completed in one single form, but has been constantly transformed according to the needs of its owners. The original medieval fortress was transformed into a residential building which served as a representative residence. Later, during the early Baroque period, there was a fundamental change in functionality. The building lost its role as a noble mansion and was transformed into a granary. This shift from luxury to utility is very evident in architecture. Later, the building was modified into a classical style, leaving a trace of elegance and simplicity in its lines.
Note now carefully the details that architecture reveals to you. If you go to the south side of the building, you can see something really special. Because there is still a preserved portals. This element is like a fingerprint of the past, which reminds us that this building once had far more decorative and representative elements than we see today. This portal is a silent witness to a time when architecture was used not only for practical accommodation of supplies, but also to express the position of the owner.
When you look at these walls, you can also think about people whose names are inextricably connected to this place. Konecchlumí was not only an empty building, but a home for the various characters that shaped the history of this estate. We can name Jan from Verdek and from Galleries or Henry from Konecchlumí. Each of them contributed to what this place looked like and to what direction his fate was headed. In history, the name of Jan Karev from Lesonic appears as well as a character that sounds very human and closer to each of us - Marta z Kokovic. These people have experienced joy and hard times here, building their family ties and deciding the fate of the surroundings. Even though their lives are long gone, their presence in the history of this place is still felt.
Now I want to reveal one interesting thing that links this building to the surrounding landscape paradise. You may have noticed that St. Peter and Paul's church is nearby. These two places are not separated, but are closely linked by historical thread. In the past, the local owners of this estate exercised the right of patronage over this church. This means that the care of spiritual life in the village and the actual construction of the temple was closely linked to the fate of the fortress and its owners. So when you're looking at this building, you're actually looking at the center of power and spiritual management of the whole area.
However, it must also be remembered how much this place has changed in recent history. While the buildings have been a continuous whole for centuries, there was a significant intervention in 2013 when the other buildings in the yard were demolished. This opened the space around today's granary and gained another, perhaps a little lonely character. Yet, although the court is now different than it was a few years ago, the spirit of the place remains preserved in the very substance of this main building.
I hope that this short journey through the history of Konecchlumí has attracted you and helped you see much more than just a simple building in this building. Now that you know what has happened here - from the medieval fortress to the aristocratic estate to the economic granary - I suggest you continue your walk and perceive the surrounding landscape with a new understanding. Take a look around, pay attention to the details, and let the atmosphere of this place drift. Thank you for your attention and I wish you a pleasant continuation in discovering the secrets of our region. Goodbye.

Seasonal recommendations
Spring brings to the surroundings the hardness of the awakening nature and the lush green, which forms a gentle contrast with stone walls. The atmosphere is full of hope and the light is pleasantly soft. We recommend to dress in layers because the morning cold can still be felt. Visiting is medium, therefore this period is ideal for quieter walks.
In the summer months, rich green vegetation and sharp sun dominate the memory, which highlights the details of architecture. The air is hot and the surroundings are very lively. For the season and the biggest crowds, come first thing in the morning. Don't forget light, breathable clothes and plenty of fluids.
Autumn wraps the fort into golden and red colors, while morning fog gives the place a mysterious and a little melancholy touch. Lighting is the most beautiful for photography in the afternoon. Get rid of waterproof shoes and warm sweaters, as moisture rises in the landscape.
Zimą makes the Konecchlumí work hard and calm, especially if the walls cover the snow layer and the freezing air cleans the horizon. There is silence and a peaceful atmosphere. It is necessary to wear warm thermal clothing and tight shoes.
