The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the heart of the town Nový Rychnov, near the local chateau. The temple is part of a protected collection of cultural monuments of the Czech Republic, in which there is also a memorial stone and two crosses. The building represents a combination of Gothic and baroque elements - it has a single-boat form with a polygonal conclusion and a prism tower that has become its dominant.

The church was built in the middle of the 14th century. The historians assume more precisely that the construction took place between 1343 and 1363. The oldest preserved part of the church is a presbytery, which dates back to around the 14th century and speaks of the original Gothic character of the building. The first written mention of the church also comes from these times.

During the 30-year war, the church suffered serious damage, as well as the entire village Nový Rychnov. For years, however, only minimal maintenance was in place - the repair was only in the 18th century. In this period (between 1740 and 1750 in particular) the church was built into a circle which adapted its inner spaces to the needs of a growing community of believers. The interventions gradually transformed the original Gothic character of the building, which was gradually encapsulated by the baroque elements.

Another difficult test was 1827, when the church was hit by a catastrophic fire. In the flames were destroyed old bells that rang the church for decades. However, the event also served as an impetus for further modernisation. The church was rebuilt, and in 1829 a tower was added to the church - an element that highlighted its dominance in the urban landscape. This tower has become one of the distinctive elements of the urban silhouette.

The recovery continued in newer history. In 2014, the tower roof was completely renovated, which meant that even in the 21st century, the local community remembered the need to preserve this heritage. Although the church did not undergo monumental reconstruction like many other temples of the Czech Republic, its eight hundred years of existence speaks of the patience of its builders and believers who gradually restored it - from Gothic beginnings to baroque adaptations to the modern age.
