The church of St. Peter in chains in the Church of the Main is a Roman Catholic philistine temple, which stands in the center of the village on the village village. This real-estate cultural monument of the Czech Republic combines older Gothic foundations and new classical form from the 19th century. Until 31 December 2005, he served as a parish sanctuary.

The first written mention of the original construction dates back to 1339. At the beginning of the 19th century, Czech countries were under the rule of the Habsburg monarchy during a period of profound social and building changes. At that time, the wars in Europe took place in Naples, while sacral architecture continued to develop in the Czech countryside. It reflected the emerging baroque traditions and the coming classicism.

The building is built from a quarry plastered stone. Oriented construction consists of a rectangular boat, quadratic narrow presbytery and lower rectangular chapel of the Virgin Mary. This chapel is adjacent to the north side of the ship and is covered by a mansard prejze roof. A prism tower, covered with a four-sided tin roof, is attached to the west front, which completes the jest with a poppy and two-arm cross. The entry south facade of the ship has four window axes and is divided by pilasters with headers on the sides. The windows are wide, oblong, framed with shallots and have compressed enchantments. The saddle roof of the temple is covered with sutures, above the end of the presbytery we find sheet metal. An octogonal sandtuscan with a lantern and a cross with a halo is appearing above the roof. From the original Gothic church only the lower part of the tower with a well-vaulted vault on the ground floor has been preserved until today.

After 1800, the ancient sanctuary was demolished due to a threat of disintegration. A new building was built in its place, which was ceremonially consecrated on November 8, 1807. On 31 December 2005, his post as parish church ended.

Today, this monument serves as a Roman Catholic filial temple. Visiting this place on the village in Kostelní Main offers a view of the construction that successfully connects medieval foundations with the classical architecture of the 19th century.

Welcome to the church main. You are standing in front of the church of St. Peter in chains, which is the historical and spiritual heart of the entire village. Look around you and see the atmosphere of this quiet place that has dominated this building for centuries. When you look up, an object built from a quarry stone that carries traces of several building stages of our past stands before you.

Let's look deeper into history to understand how this shrine was created. The first written mention of the original construction, which stood here earlier, leads us to the far year of the 133rd century. That's when the church first appears in historical springs and serves the local community. The original medieval sacral structure stood here for decades, but time and tooth of time took their toll. After a year of a thousand and eight centuries, clouds in the literal sense of the word have withdrawn over the church vaults. The building began to threaten to collapse, and it was therefore necessary to take a radical step. The old church was torn down and a whole new building grew up in its place. Its construction took place quite quickly and the 8th of November in the year one thousand and eighth of the seventh was ceremonially consecrated.

Now pay attention to the architecture itself and the details you have right in front of you. The church of St. Peter in chains in a unique way combines the older Gothic foundations and a new form from the nineteenth century. Although most of the original construction was torn down, history was not completely erased. When you look carefully at the lower part of the tower, you see the oldest, originally gothic element that miraculously survived all the stormy changes. On the ground floor of this tower there is a rare rolled vault, which remembers the conquest of medieval builders. The whole rest of the building, built from quarry stone, bears a newer face, which replaced the flimsy predecessor.

While written sources have left clear data on construction and ordination, the names of architects behind this reconstruction have unfortunately disappeared in history. Likewise, history has not preserved the specific names of the important personalities associated with this place, but this does not take away the charm and atmosphere of this filial church. On the contrary, instead of great historical dramas, this church lives the stories of ordinary people who have come here for generations to seek comfort and peace.

An interesting milestone in the modern history of this place is also the end of the year two thousand and five. On December 31, that year, a long era ended, during which this building performed as a parish church. Since then it has served as a Roman Catholic filial church, which still proudly stands in its place in the middle of the village and resembles the rich past of the Church Head.

We hope you enjoyed the tour of this interesting place. Take a moment of peace for quiet contemplation, go around the building around and enjoy the genius loci that breathes from every stone on the beach. Thank you for listening to our audio guide, and we wish you a beautiful rest of the day while further exploring the surroundings. Goodbye.

Tips for visitors

The best time to visit St. Peter's Church in chains in Kostelní Main is during the morning hours, when the sunlight ideally illuminates the facade of the historical building on the baits and the village has a quiet atmosphere. Take with you comfortable shoes to walk around the village and during the summer months also plenty of drinking water, because in the immediate vicinity there need not be open food stands. When photographing this originally medieval building, which was demolished after 1800 for the threat of discarding and subsequently restored, you will get the best footage from a distance from the edges of the village, where the overall architectural context of the church is displayed in the centre of the village. Since there are no other specific places in the surrounding area of the monument, we recommend focusing on the peaceful atmosphere of the village Kostelní Hlavno and its nearest rural surroundings.

Seasonal recommendations

Spring in Kostelní Mainly brings awakening nature, when the surrounding greenery and blooming trees create fine and fresh scenery ideal for photographing exterior Gothic-Renaissance architecture. The sunlight penetrates through freshly foliage branches and gives the place a calm, optimistic atmosphere. In this period you will not usually meet large crowds of visitors, which allows for an uninterrupted tour. We recommend fixed shoes because of the occasional spring humidity in the surrounding terrain and a warmer layer of clothing, because morning and morning temperatures at the altar may be colder, although the sun is already warm outside. The best time to visit is in the morning, when soft spring light best highlights the details of the facade.

Summer offers the most lively atmosphere of the season, when full sunlight radiates white plaster and church tower background deep blue sky. Nature in the surrounding area is lush and provides a pleasant shade beneath the grown trees in close proximity to the building. As this is the main tourist season, it is necessary to take into account the higher incidence of visitors interested in monuments, especially on weekends. For a calmer experience, choose early morning hours or late afternoons where the biggest daily heat falls and the sun creates long, dramatic shadows. Wear light, breathable clothes, but don't forget the headgear and plenty of fluids for a possible long walk around the village.

Autumn turns the church's surroundings into a colourful palette of warm shades of yellow, orange and red, which deliver melancholy and exceptionally photogenic weather. The frequent morning fog surrounding the historical tower creates a quiet, mystical atmosphere ideal for the perception of the spiritual dimension of the place. The tourist frequency is falling significantly during this period, so you will enjoy the memory almost alone. Due to cooler winds and damp air, it is worth choosing a wind-resistant jacket, long pants and waterproof shoes. The best light conditions for admiring exteriors can be reached around noon, when the autumn sun passes through low clouds for at least a moment.

Winter in Kostelní Mainly breathes the memory of a fairy tale, especially if the landscape is covered by snowfall, which reduces sounds and increases the festive peace of the whole area. The lighting is very sharp and short, while the low sun creates long shadows on snow and reflects off white walls. In the period around Christmas and New Year, there is a deep room that will be appreciated by all looking for an escape from the pre-Christmas rush of cities. Here it is absolutely necessary to take care of warm winter clothes, hat, gloves and high-quality shoes with anti-slip soles, as access roads can freeze. Due to the short days, plan your arrival for the morning hours to make the most of the natural light.
