The Church of Saint Philip and James in Frantoly stands on a slope in the middle of a cemetery. The cemetery is surrounded by a boundary wall with a single gate and a small chapel. The terrain here is so steep that the foundations of the chancel lie approximately four meters lower than the space beneath the tower. The church is a cultural monument. For a long time it was the parish church of Frantoly parish, and since January 1st, 2020 it has been a subsidiary church of the Roman Catholic parish of Prachatice.
A church has stood here since the 14th century. From the year 1360 comes a report that after the death of priest Nicholas, the provost of Vyšehrad appointed a new parish priest named Michael. In 1754 the original church was destroyed by fire. Two years later, in 1756, a new church was completed in baroque style. Masonry from the tower of the older structure was preserved.
It is a single-nave oriented building. A narrower, rectangularly enclosed chancel adjoins the nave, and a prism-shaped tower stands on the axis of the western façade. Pilasters and a profiled cornice articulate the façades. Both the nave and chancel are covered with beaver tail tiles, while the tower and sanctus bell turret have tin-plated roofs.
Inside there are flat ceilings. The nave is 14.73 meters long and 9.5 meters wide. In its western part is a gallery supported by two wooden columns. A triumphal arch separates the chancel from the nave. It is 6.3 meters wide and 7.6 meters deep and is covered with a hip roof with a sanctus bell turret.
