A proprietary church stood on this site, mentioned in the year 1067, according to another source in the year 1125. At the beginning of the 14th century, a Gothic parish church of the new town was built here. After a fire in 1568, it was remodeled in Renaissance style in the years 1573 to 1575. Another renovation took place in the years 1870 to 1872 according to the plans of architect Denhart.
It is a basilical structure with a prismatic tower on the western facade and a presbytery closed off by a pentagon. A sacristy from 1873 adjoins its southern side.
