Krásný Buk is a ruin of the Gothic chateau situated near the village of Krásná Lipa in the district of Děčín. The chateau is situated on a granite island over the right bank of Křinice in the middle of Šluknovska hill. Today it was only preserved by terrain relics and small remnants of masonry, which are protected as a cultural monument.

The chateau was founded at the end of the thirteenth century - according to archaeological research rather in its second half. The first written mention of it dates back to 1319, when Jindřech of Lipé exchanged it with other property with King John of Luxembourg for property in Moravia. Military conflicts in the region have been significantly affected by the fate of the chateau. In 1339, it was conquered by the Zittau army, which thus ensured control of the region - the previous years, the armed forces of Beautiful Buk were disrupting the mountaineering interests. After conquering the chateau he lost his military function and was never restored. It was abandoned over time, and it happened in the first half of the fourteenth century.

The Krásný Buk had a bergfrit system with two main elements: a dam and a chateau core. The prelim was less heavily fortified and most of its buildings were destroyed; The moat, a hint of a wall and a deep remnant of a building were preserved from it. The actual fortification was the core of the barrier, which surrounded a massive moat carved directly into the rock. The only partially preserved walled construction is the torso of the round bergfrit - the defensive tower - which protected a small palace on the south side with its material. Archaeological research showed that the perimeter wall of the core was built later, after the construction of the bergfrit.

In 1850, intensive archaeological excavations took place at the chateau, which brought various metal objects. Allegedly, a weapon resembling a Hussite thumb appeared among the findings. In the field under the chateau was also found a Roman coin from the time of the emperor Hadrian. Today's Krásný Buk represents a landscape relict rather than a dramatic building torso. The visitor will not find massive ruins here, but terrain shapes and landscape inequalities reminiscent of a long-lost architecture - fragments of masonry, artificial depression and moats carved into the rock. It is this combination of archaeological traces and the natural environment of the Šluknovska hill-katina that makes the location interesting for interested people in medieval history.

Welcome to Beautiful Buk, a unique ruin of the Gothic chateau that rises above the Krínce near the Beautiful Lip in Děčínsk. You stand in front of this majestic sharpness, where granite rocks served as a solid base for this historic chateau. The ruin is now just the shadow of its former grip, but its presence can tell you a long and fascinating story.

Let's go into history. Krásný Buk was founded in the second half of the 13th century as a defensive building to protect the area from enemy incursions. The first written mention of the chateau dates back to 1319 and was connected to the influential family of Henry of Lipé. However, his days as a defensive mansion were short because already in the first half of the 14th century he was abandoned and never renewed.

Now look up at the remains of the medieval masonry. Although the chateau is now merely a fragment of its former glory, you might notice shapes and structures that give an idea of its original purpose. These remains are witnessed by a complex architecture that once preserved rich historical stories.

Key personalities associated with Beautiful Buk include Henry of Lipé and King John of Luxembourg. In 1339 the chateau went through a dramatic event when it was recharged by the Zittau troops. This attack led to his abandonment, which ended his short history as a defensive chateau.

The interesting thing is that Krásný Buk was the subject of archaeological excavations in 1850. These studies helped reveal more about his past and gave insight into the life that once took place inside his walls.

When you prepare to leave, we invite you to explore this fascinating ruin. Look around and let your own story inspire this historic place. We hope your visit day on Beautiful Buk was fruitful and inspiring. God!
