Křenice Granary
Køenická stronghold, originally renaissance mansion converted to granary, is located in the village Křenice in Klatovy district. As a former mansion from the 14th to 17th century, this monument is particularly interesting thanks to changes in owners and architectural transformations. In 1964 it was declared a cultural monument and its history reflects changes in the Czech feudal system.
The first written mention of the Køenice Castle dates back to 1339. At that time, the village with the fort was sold to the Sazem Monastery from Dolan. This sale is an early example of local nobles' influence on the distribution of property and its role in the management of regional resources. The monastery was a key institution affecting economic and social structures in the region. After Hussite wars, the fortress went into the hands of Jetřich Válecký of Vřesovice, which contributed significantly to stabilizing assets after the conflict.
From an architectural point of view, the Køenická fort is an interesting transformation from the Renaissance mansion to the granary in the middle of the 18th century. The original building had a rectangular plan, two floors and a valb roof. The facades were simple but broken down by regularly distributed windows. The Baroque right-angled portal on the north facade supplied an elegant building. The remains of Renaissance sgraffiti decoration and traces of illusionary breakdown in the form of Pilaster Order were then witnessed by the rich historical heritage.
The owners of Křenice were changing over time. After the Chotešov monastery, the fortress passed into the hands of the flag from Ptenín, then Václav Pétipešky from the Beautiful Dvor and then Jetřich Válecký from Vřesovice. After this, the property was handed over to the family of the Kysperski family from Vrísovice, Lidmile to Eliška Lipovská and Jan Hřman to Černín from Chudenice. In the end, Count Ferdinand Morzin transferred the farm to the Merklín estate.
The key event in the history of the fortress was to keep Køenice Jetřich Jakub after the defeat of the state uprising. This proves his ability to adapt to political change. The second important event was the sale of the farm Lidmile Eliska Lipovská and its subsequent connection to the Jejov estate. This was reflected in the practice of the merger of assets at the time.
Today the Køenice fort stands as a witness to the past. Its history attracts people interested in the Czech feudal era. The current state of the granary maintains traces of rich architectural and social history, making it a valuable cultural heritage. Visit Křenice offers an opportunity to explore not only the memory itself, but also the surrounding landscape and its historical context.
The Krenice fortress is therefore an important cultural monument reflecting the changes of the Czech feudal system. Its architecture and history attract people interested in the past, while the trip to Køenice offers insight into the region's rich history.
