Křížový kámen in the village Valeč, specifically in its part of Jeøín, is a medieval granite monolith. In 2014 it was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. This atypical monument stands in the corner of the fenced garden of house No. 27 and represents an important proof of regional history.

No written sources of the exact age and creation of the building have been preserved, therefore its history is left to popular traditions. According to local legends, the stone was erected as a reminder of the death of the Swedish commander during the 30-year war. Cross-stones and reconciliation crosses were often placed at the sites of tragic events or crimes in Czech countries in the late Middle Ages and the early New Testament, which also corresponds to this type of monument.

The object is carved from one piece of granite into the form of an elongated monolith. The surface of the stone is roughly worked. In the upper half of the south side there is a basrelief in the shape of a Greek cross. The total height of the monument is 1,27 metres, the above part being between 0,89 and 0,93 metres. The width of the stone is between 0,35 and 0,40 metres and the thickness between 0,20 and 0,23 metres.

Originally, the stone stood in an open landscape near the extinct field road, which led across the hill Seeberg towards the Vrbice southwest of the village of Jereny. In the middle of the 20th century it was found and subsequently moved to the garden of house No. 27. In 2001, the artifact was installed on a newly built rugged terrace, where it is located today.

Křížový kámen in Jereny is a valuable witness of the past, which reminds of the lost roads and historical events of the region. Visiting this place offers the opportunity to see a unique medieval element in its modern context and to think about the importance of small monuments in the Czech landscape.

Welcome to Valeči, specifically in the picturesque part of the village known as Jeøín, where you are now in front of a unique historical monument - the Cross Stone. This monument, which stands in the corner of the fenced garden next to the house number twenty-seven, is not only a witness of the past, but also a masterpiece of craftsman's hands from the late Middle Ages. Look up and notice on the south side of the stone carved relief in the shape of a cross, which attracts attention with its simplicity and depth.

This roughly worked granite monolith of elongated shape has a total height of 1,27 metres and was declared a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 2014. His history dates back to the late Middle Ages, when he was built to commemorate a tragic event. The exact original purpose and stories associated with this place were lost in the darkness of history, but it is possible that the stone was an honor or a monument to someone important to the community.

Imagine that around 1500 this stone was created as a symbol of endurance and memory. You may have asked if it was connected to some key historical personalities or events. Although a particular architect or author of this work remains anonymous, his work tells stories of the past that can only be conceited. An interesting connection to the death of the Swedish commander during the Thirty Years' War around 1618 to 1648 is possible, which adds another layer of historical stories to the stone.

Now pay attention to its location. Originally, this stone stood in the field near the extinct road, indicating its original purpose as a guide or monument in places important to the travellers or residents of the region. Later it was found and moved, which shows its lasting value even in times of change.

In 2001, there was another important moment in the life of this stone - it was placed on a newly built rugged terrace, which gave it a new context while protecting it from damage. This act of conservation shows the importance of the monument to the current residents of Valeče and their respect for history.

Although specific personalities associated with this place remain unknown, Křížový kámen stands as a witness of time, a reminder of past generations and their life stories. Its simplicity, combined with a deep historical value, offers visitors not only visual but also emotional experience.

Let's move on and explore other parts of Valeče, but before leaving notice how the sun illuminates the relief on the stone, which gives him almost magical shine. This moment may be a symbolic reminder of all those whose lives were once linked to this monument.
