The Trocnov Spa House, originally an evangelical hospice, is a cultural monument located in the Westend district of Karlovy Vary on the street of King George 3. This representative spa villa with the German character of razed medieval castles and castles is a unique architectural monument. Its history dates back to the end of the 19th century, when it was built in 1897-1899 according to the design of architect Julius Zeissigo at the initiative of Evangelical Pastor Camille Fell. Today it is protected as a real-estate cultural monument of the Czech Republic and belongs to the Statutory City of Karlovy Vary.

The creation of the Trocnov spa house was related to the development of Westend district. At that time, Karlovy Vary was a popular spa centre, reflecting the wider European tradition of spa. Evangelical pastor Camillo Feller convinced the city council of the need to build a hospice to cope with newly built sacral building projects - the Church of St. Luke and the Orthodox Church of St. Peter and Paul. In 1897, the Evangelical Society of Karlovy Vary purchased land in the then Edward Knoll-Strasse, today the street of King George. The project was developed by Leipzig architect Julius Zeissig and the construction took place until 1899. The building was built to celebrate the jubilee of the throne of emperor Franz Joseph I., and the ceremonial opening took place on 16 May 1899.

The architecture of the Trocnov spa house is typical of historism, with elements of the German raided castle and Saxon details. The villa is located in King George's street 3 and has a garden with fencing. The German character of the building is highlighted by the motifs of the sun on the last floor of the tower and the Ondře cross railing of balconies, which gives the building a Saxon expression. This architectural style reflects the period of industrialisation and modernisation of Europe at the end of the 19th century.

After 1948, the building was nationalized and renamed. In 1995 it was completely renovated, which led to the declaration of the Trocnov spa house as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Since then it has been owned by the Statutory City of Karlovy Vary and registered as an object of amenities.

The key events in the history of the Trocnov spa house are the purchase of the land by the Evangelical community Karlovy Vary in 1897, the festive opening in 1899 and the complete renovation in 1995. These events highlight not only the architectural value of the monument, but also its historical importance for the city of Karlovy Vary.

Today lázeňský dům Trocnov is open to the public and is worth visiting not only as a monument with a rich history, but also as an example of architectural art from the history era. Its unique design and important role in the development of the Westend district makes it an essential part of the cultural heritage of Karlovy Vary.

The Trocnov Spa House is a reminder of the rich history and architectural art that deserves the attention of every visitor to Karlovy Vary. Its importance for the local community and cultural heritage makes it not only a monument, but also an inspiration for the recognition of the historical value of architecture.

Welcome to Karlovy Vary. Right now, at this moment, you're facing one of the most impressive buildings in this whole western part of town. The lázeňský dům Trocnov stands before your eyes. You may not recognize at first sight that this is a common spa villa because its appearance immediately brings you to something much older and more noble. Feel the atmosphere radiating from this building. It has a sense of peace, but also a certain force, which resembles ancient medieval castles or solid castles. This building is not just a house, it is a witness to history that stands here and watches the changing world around it. Let yourself be carried away by the first impression this architecture gives you, and let us guide you through its rich past.

Let us now return together in time to understand why this house was created and what its original purpose was. Imagine the end of the nineteenth century, a period of great changes and the bloom of a spa city. This house was not meant from the beginning only as a luxury residence for guests seeking rest in the spa. Its roots are much deeper and more spiritual. This house was originally built as an evangelical hospice. At that time it meant a place that provided refuge, peace and support for people who sought spiritual and physical recovery. This whole project was carried out in the years of a thousand eight hundred ninety-seven to a thousand eight hundred ninety-nine. This whole idea, and the very rise of this place, was behind a man named Camillo Feller. He was an evangelical pastor, a man with a great vision who wanted to secure a dignified place for his faithful brothers and sisters. Thanks to his efforts and the abilities of an architect named Julius Zeissig, this house has become a reality and today we see him as the ultimate work of his time.

Now pay attention to the construction itself and what you see right in front of you. Look at this fascinating facade. Notice the strange structure we call a rake. These dark wooden beams, which form geometric patterns on the walls, give the building the unique, almost castle look. It is precisely this quay that gives the construction its strong medieval character and gives it a very specific Saxon touch. This aesthetics is typical of areas adjacent to our borders and in this city you will find it in such a beautiful form. Look at the details that can only be hidden to those who look carefully. If you raise your eyes and look up to the tower that dominates the entire profile of the house, you'll see something really special. On its top floor are the motifs of the sun. These solar shapes appear to be the guardians of a building that shines above the city and gives the whole house a sense of light and life.

Now look at the balconies that surround different parts of the house. Notice their railing. They're not just ordinary bars. They are decorated with a pattern called the Ondřej Cross. This cross pattern is very elegant and also gives the building the right rhythm and order. This whole combination of wooden beams, solar motifs and cross railing creates one whole, which is absolutely unique. Architect Julius Zeissig was perfectly able to link the need for a representative spa mansion with a tradition that resembles old forts. It's an architecture that doesn't just look at what a building looks like, it's how it feels.

Speaking of this place, we can't forget the people who left their trail. As I mentioned earlier, Pastor Camillo Feller was the one who gave this place soul and purpose. His attempt to create a hospice was the driving force behind the entire construction process. On the other hand is the architect Julius Zeissig whose artistic deposit in the form of this Saxon style can be seen in every millimeter of this facade. These two men, each in their role, created something that survived centuries. And even though times have changed, even though the role of this house has changed from hospice to representative villa, their work remains.

There is one other thing that might interest you, one fact that underlines the weight of this place. Although this house has been through many decades and has seen many generations of visitors, its significance has not been forgotten. In a thousand and nine hundred and ninety-five, this house was officially declared a cultural monument. This is an important recognition that tells us that what you're seeing right now is not just an ordinary old house. It is the precious treasure of our history to be protected and honored. This status of the monument is a confirmation that the beauty and history you feel here are extremely valuable to all of us.

You're standing in front of a building with a combination of faith, architecture and spa luxury. It is a place where the clergy was confronted with the material, where a peaceful refuge and a beautiful environment were sought for rest. I hope this brief insight into the past has helped you better understand what you're seeing right now. Let this experience occur, see the details that you may have missed at first glance, and enjoy the atmosphere of this wonderful neighborhood in the west of the city. Karlovy Vary have many other secrets and beauty waiting for you. So keep walking, discover more treasures and enjoy every moment in this beautiful city. Thank you for your attention and I wish you the rest of the day on your next discovery.
